About Agartala Airport

Agartala Airport (IATA code: IXA) is 12 km northwest of Agartala city. This airport is under the administration of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). It is also the second-busiest Airport in Northeast India after Guwahati Airport. Though it is a domestic airport, proposals have been made to upgrade Agartala Airport to an international airport. The Maharaja of Tripura, Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, designed and built the airport in 1942. Primarily, it had one runway, now being used as a taxiway. During World War II, the Agartala Airport was used by the 4th Combat Cargo Group of the United States Army Air Forces Tenth Air Force to fly Curtiss C-46 Commando transport aircraft above Burma. Agartala Airport provides its passengers with various facilities such as free trolleys, ATMs and cash machines, childcare rooms, medical facilities, free wheelchair facilities for the physically challenged, car rental services, and general taxi services.

Agartala, on the banks of the Haora River, is a small but beautiful city located in the northeastern part of India. It is the capital of Tripura. Raipur Airport, also known as Swami Vivekananda Airport (IATA code: RPR), is at Mana. The airport is at a distance of about 15 km from Raipur city. It comes under the category of the 35 non-metro airports that the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has modernised. It is also one of the fastest-developing airports. In 2012, a new terminal was built at Raipur Airport. The new terminal can handle up to 1,300 passengers; it has two aero-bridges, 20 check-in counters, 8 boarding gates, 4 security counters, 8 ex-ray baggage, and 3 conveyor belts.
