Indore Airport (IATA code: IDR), also known as Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport after the Maharani of the Maratha Empire, is located 8 km from the centre of Indore. It ranks as the twentieth busiest airport in India. The Indore airport was built in 1945. Previously, the airport served only domestic flights, but later, with the expansion of the runway in 1996, the airport was opened for international flights. The Swami Vivekananda Airport (IATA code: RPR), also known as Raipur Airport, is located about 15 km south of the city centre. It is among the 35 non-metro airports that the Airport Authority of India modernised. Raipur Airport received a new terminal in 2012.
