Amritsar Airport, named after the city's founder, Guru Ram Das, serves the states of Punjab, Jammu, and Himachal Pradesh. The airport is located approximately 11 km from the centre of the city on the Amritsar-Ajnala road. It is one of the largest airports in North India, handling over 100 domestic and international flights daily. A new integrated terminal was launched in 2009 as part of a national project to modernise airports. Shimla, originally Simla, is the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh in northwestern India.
