Earlier known as the Borjhar Airport, the Guwahati Airport is now officially known as the Guwahati International Airport or the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (IATA code: GAU). The airport started operating in 2000, and is named after Gopinath Bordoloi. The airport is of great significance for air transportation throughout the northeastern corridor. Situated in Borjhar, the airport is approximately 26 km away from Guwahati city centre. The LGBI airport serves as a base for the Indian Air Force. The Airport Authority of India takes care of its operations. There are also international flight services to Bangkok and the main cities of Bhutan, such as Thimpu and Paro. The airport resumed commercial services in September 2022 after a two-and-a-half-year hiatus. The state capital will now have air connectivity with New Delhi, Dharamshala and Kullu.
