About Bagdogra Airport

Bagdogra Airport (IATA: IXB) provides air connectivity to and from the nearby regions like Gangtok and Mirik. It is jointly operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Indian Air Force, which has a base here. There is one runway with flights departing for cities like Kolkata, Guwahati, New Delhi, Imphal, and other major cities (especially in Northeast India). The airport has facilities like restrooms, restaurants, and duty-free shops. The proposal for constructing a new terminal building for the airport has been approved. The construction is scheduled to be completed by July 2025. The new terminal building would have as many as 10 aerobridges, 16 parking bays, and a taxi passage. The Airports Authority of India plans to spend about Rs 600 crore to build the new terminal. About 104 acres have been allocated for the new terminal by the West Bengal government. The new airport would result in a 12-fold increase in the size of the terminal and a spike in the annual passenger traffic capacity by 17 times.
