About Daman

Daman (Damao), an ex-Portuguese enclave, is a haven for travellers seeking quiet, isolation, and tranquillity. The allure of this place is found in its beautiful forts and churches, which exude the glory of the Portuguese heritage. This charming union territory was a lucky find. On his way to Ormuz, the first Portuguese Captain Diogo de Mello encountered an intense cyclone and became disoriented. He found himself on the Daman coast after all of his expectations had been dashed. Since then, Daman has been a popular place for those seeking to be lost and discovered. Due to its natural beauty, the Union Territory was previously known as Kalana Pavri or Lotus of Marshlands. Daman is a laid-back tiny hamlet divided by the Daman Ganga river that exudes a quirky charm.
