The airport has one terminal spread over an area of 1,000 acres that can handle up to 2,000 passengers during peak hours. The new integrated terminal building was inaugurated on 10 January 2010. It is a public airport used by Air India, SpiceJet, IndiGo, and other domestic carriers. The airport operates close to the city centre, on a hilltop 8 Km from Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway station and about 20 Km from Trivandrum International Airport. There are three terminals in the airport, which are named after historical figures of Kerala such as Sahodaran Ayyappan and Rama Varma.
