Tuticorin Airport (IATA code: TCR) is a domestic airport which serves the districts of Tirunelveli and Tuticorin in southern Tamil Nadu. It is situated approximately 15.6 km from Tuticorin city centre. It is a small airport with a single terminal that can accommodate up to 75 passengers and one small aircraft at a time. The Tamil Nadu government is planning to modernise the airport to increase its passenger and cargo handling capacity. Although Tuticorin Airport is small, it is fully equipped with amenities such as baggage services and wheelchair-friendly facilities for the differently abled. There is also a specific provision for baggage handling for senior citizens at no additional cost. The opportunities and venues for shopping on the airport grounds are limited. A small snack store called Kajah Tea caters to local requirements and is both comfortable and sanitary.

Tuticorin, more prominently referred to as Thoothukudi, is located in the southeast of Tamil Nadu. Thoothukudi is known as India's ëPearl Cityí as pearl fishing is carried out here. Its proximity to the big cities of Kanyakumari (129 km), Madurai (147 km), and Rameshwaram (189 km) make it a popular tourist destination. Thoothukudi is about 605 km from Chennai and covers a total area of 4,600 sq km. The district is bordered by Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, and Tirunelveli districts and the Gulf of Mannar. Another jewel amongst Thoothukudi's tourist attractions is the Thiruchendur Murugan Seashore Temple (40 km from Tuticorin) and the Panimaya Matha Church (7 km from Tuticorin), built by the Portuguese in 1711. Thoothukudi has a tropical climate. Summers are hot and humid, but winters are cold and pleasant, with frequent rain showers. Thoothukudi's average annual temperature is 27.5∞C. January and May are the coldest and warmest months, respectively.

There are two terminals at the Trivandrum International Airport. The domestic flights take off from Terminal 1, while international planes take off from Terminal 2. The terminal was recently upgraded with more spacious lounges and better passenger transit alternatives. There are three baggage carousels and comprehensive immigration/customs facilities. Flemingo (a joint venture of Adani and Flemingo) manages the duty-free shop at the international terminal.
