Originally known as Bombay, Mumbai is the capital city of the state of Maharashtra. Tuticorin (IATA: TCR) is a domestic airport located at a distance of approximately 17 km from Tuticorin. It is well connected with Chennai and only has one domestic terminal. It was inaugurated in 1992. Even though the airport is small it has optimum baggage facilities and wheelchair services. Medical and lounging facilities are available in the premises. However, the scope for shopping here is limited and there are no places to dine. The airport is well connected to the city by car rentals, buses, and trains. The Indian government is planning to expand and upgrade it to make it a base for IAF and Indian Coast Guard Aircraft soon.

Thoothukudi, popularly known as Tuticorin, is a city located in the state of Tamil Nadu, along the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It is a coastal town and is known for its busy ports. Famous for pearl diving, the city has been nicknamed ìPearl Townî. The climate here is warm and humid around the year. Thoothukudi was a part of the kingdom of Pandyas in the 7th-9th century AD. It belonged to the Cholas from the 9th-12th century AD. During this period, this historic town attracted many travellers and adventurers. The Portuguese arrived here in 1532 AD followed by the Dutch. However, it was annexed by the East India Company in 1782. In 1864, the first wooden jetty to this port town was authorised to be built. The port was used to export salt, cotton, dry fish, palmyra stalks and fibres, etc. This town became an important stronghold of the Indian freedom struggle in the 20th century. Tuticorin is known for both its churches and temples, displaying the rich cultural history of the place. The main festivals celebrated here are the Adi Amavasai, Sasti, and Chithirai chariot festivals along with the Our Lady of Snow Basilica Festival.
