About Udaipur

Udaipur is situated in the southern part of Rajasthan, in northwestern India. It is on the eastern side of the Aravalli ranges, about 100 km southwest of Chittorgarh. It was founded as the capital of Mewar Kingdom by Maharana Udai Singh in 1553. Several places in the country are found to have a rich heritage. But the heritage that the city of Udaipur shares with the people is nowhere to be found. The city was set as the capital of the princely state of Mewar in 1568 by Maharaja Udai Singh. This princely state got established back in the 8th century by the Sisodia Rajputs. Later, in the 18th century, the state suffered a lot due to internal incursions and dissension by Marathas. The place is surrounded by the magnificent Aravali Hills that act as natural walls which made it difficult for the Mughals to invade Udaipur. The city is referred to as the "Venice of the East", " The Kashmir of Rajasthan" and the "City of Lakes and Palaces". Apart from the rich history of the city, Udaipur possesses a splendid collection of art and culture, depicting the long-living traditions of the people. Such as marble, sculpture, wooden handicrafts, puppets, pottery, and many more. There are several beautiful lakes, such as the Pichola, Jaisamand Lake, Doodh Talai, Udaisagar Lake, Badi Lake, and many more. Other than the lakes, there are beautiful, luxurious, and royal places worth visiting, such as the Lake Palace, City Palace, Kumbhalgarh Fort, Chittorgarh fort, and many more.
