About Vadodara

Situated on the banks of the River Vishwamitri, Vadodara is the third-largest city in Gujarat. Vadodara is the cultural capital of Gujarat and serves as a hotspot of western India's industry, education, and culture. The city gets its name from the Sanskrit word, vatodor, which means in the heart of the Banyan trees. The city was known as Baroda during the colonial period, which was the anglicised name for Vadodara. The traces of early trade settlers date back to 812 AD. Up until 1297, Hindu kings dominated Baroda's imperial province. From the Gupta empire to the Chalukya dynasty to the Solanki Rajputs, and finally, to the Sultans of Delhi, control of the region changed hands several times. Vadodara witnessed its heydays under the reign of the Gaekwads. The son of Pilaji Rao Gaekwad, Damaji Rao, defeated the Mughal armies and conquered Baroda State in 1734. The Gaekwads ruled the kingdom until Indian independence in 1947. The most popular ruler was Maharaja Sayajirao III, who ruled the city from 1875 to 1939 and contributed the most to its development. Vadodara has many architectural edifices that testify to the pomp of the Gaekwad reign. They would delight all kinds of travellers. Laxmi Vilas Palace, Kirti Mandir, Sayaji Garden, Tambekar Wada, Baroda Museum, and Art Gallery are the city's main attractions. The city is well-connected with airways, railways, and roadways to many parts of the country and makes for a perfect travel destination.
