About Dehradun

The beautiful hill station of Dehradun, the capital of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, lies in the foothills of the Himalayas at an elevation of 670 m above sea level, surrounded by the lush Sal forests. This hill station is a fascinating blend of historical culture, mythology, unparalleled landscape, and modern amenities. The name is a combination of the terms Dera and Dun, which together mean Camp in the Valley. The city is also known as the Abode of Drona, a reference to the legendary Guru Dronacharya from the Mahabharata. The city was established in 1699 when the Sikh Guru Ram Rai retreated here from Punjab. The Mughal Governor Najib-ud-Daula occupied the city from 1757 to 1770. The last invaders were the Gurkhas, and when the Gurkha War ended in 1816, the city was ceded to the British. In 1947, after Indiaís independence, the city became a part of Uttar Pradesh. However, the northern portion of the state was separated into the state of Uttarakhand in 2000 and Dehradun became the capital of the newly formed state. Today, Dehradun is a renowned education hub and home to iconic schools like Welham and Doon School. The city houses prestigious educational and research institutions like the Forest Research Institute, the Indian Military Academy, the Archaeological Survey Laboratory, the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, and Rashtriya Indian Military College. It is also a gateway to hill stations like Mussoorie and pilgrimage sites like Haridwar and Rishikesh. The city is ideal for both business and recreation because of its combination of modern conveniences and breathtaking natural scenery. It used to be a refuge for retirees, but today it's bustling with activity, yet it still manages to exude an air of laid-back cool. Cosy cafes and lounges coexist with historic landmarks and bustling bazaars in this city. The main industry here is tea processing. The climate of Dehradun is one of the reasons the city is such a popular tourist destination. Although the climate is always pleasant throughout the year, it is ideal from March to June and October to December. The temperature peaks at 36∞C during the summer and falls to 5∞C during winter.

About Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, popularly known as Vizag, is one of the country's oldest port cities. The city is named after the Hindu God of Valour, Visakha. The city is predominantly a commercial and industrial centre, but its stunning unspoiled beaches, serene landscape, gushing waterfalls, lush forests, ancient temples, spectacular caves, and rich cultural history draw tourists in large numbers. This port city is home to the countryís oldest shipyards. Historically, the city was part of the Kalinga Kingdom and was subsequently invaded by the Eastern Chalukyas in the 7th century AD. Several rulers invaded and ruled over the city, such as the Reddy Rajahs of Kondaveedu, the Gajapathis of Orissa, the Nawabs of Golkonda, and the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This territory eventually passed on to French conquerors and finally it came under the British Raj. Visakhapatnam is known for its beaches like Rama Krishna beach, Rushikonda beach, Gangavaram beach, Yarada beach, and Bheemili beach. They are noticeably cleaner and less crowded than other well-known beaches along the Indian coastline. Telugu is the official and most widely spoken language in Visakhapatnam. English and Hindi are also widely spoken. Being an ancient city, the various ruling dynasties had a significant influence on the cityís culture. The prominent festivals include Visakha Utsav, Chandanotsavam, Lumbini festival, and ISKCON Utsav. Besides these, there are modern festivals like Rishikonda Beach Festival and Visakhapatnam Music Festival that showcase the cityís culture blended with modern elements. Visakhapatnam is famous for beautiful hand-woven carpets, Bidriware, handicrafts like peacocks crafted out of delicate silver filigree and Kondapalli woodcraft toys, and Kalamkari paintings. The city has scorching summers that last from the months of March to May, with temperatures reaching a high of 45∞C. The monsoon features heavy torrential showers of rain and high humidity, which lasts from June to September. Winters start in November and end in February with temperatures ranging from 18∞C to 32∞C.
