Grand Hotel

One of the oldest hotels and restaurants in Kochi. Great choices of food like, authentic central Kerala, Continental and Chinese food are available. Fluffy Kerala Parotta, Beef fry and roast, yummy tandoori starters are a must try. For lunch undoubtedly the fish curry meals, fried Karimeen fish or prawns are great choices. Good option for a meal with family and friends as their vast menu serves everyone. Season specials menu are unique and must try, Christmas specials are always popular. Make sure you call and book a table in advance to avoid waiting during the weekends and evenings.

Grand Hotel on M.G. Road, Ernakulam, Kerala state, India next to Woodlands Junction and Jos Junction, is a very busy hotel opposite to the Malabar Gold showroom. Grand has been in business since 1963. Grand offers authentic Kerala food, renowned for its seafood, its popular buffet or brunch options, apart from its hotel, which provides lodging. It's also at a walkable distance to the popular K.P.C.C. Junction, Chittur Road, and also very close to the Maharaja's Ground Metro Station. I have previously visited their restaurant with my family during my school days and while living near Alwaye/Aluva in Ernakulam District. I have also stayed at the Grand while visiting India with my family, years back. They have very spacious rooms with old decco architecture, wooden floors which offers views of M.G. Road. Feel that their Superior Rooms were far better than their Standard Rooms. The bathroom and the room, as such, could have used some upgrades/face-lift even during those days! I am not sure whether they even have renovated since? Anyhow, they had great room service even in the wee hours before 5:00 A.M.! Remember this, as my father ordered a teapot and bread sandwiches, as we had arrived on a very early morning flight to Cochin. They had a hair salon and an art/handicrafts shop outside the hotel and within their compound. The proximity to both Railway Stations and even the K.S.R.T.C Bus Station or to the major shopping locality was very handy. I really want to review the restaurant, Grand Pavillion which I visited multiple times in 2022. They serve a variety of cuisines, namely Asian, Chinese, Grill/BBQ, Indian, Italian and International. I had dinner and lunch. The place is always packed and at times, you would even have to wait, especially during lunch hours! I had to leave my name and Cellphone number at the desk outside the restaurant and wait before being called in. The wash area was very small, just for two people and the floors were all wet and dirty. Management didn't seem to pay any attention. It was somewhat crowded for dinner even though tables were still available. It was pretty noisy and everybody were having a good time. The crowd was mainly either couples, family or even relatives being entertained. I sat next to a young family who seemed pretty nice, even though we didn't converse! People seemed to mostly order either Chicken or Mutton Biriyanis' or Parotta and Beef Fry, other cuisines and deserts. I ordered a Sweet corn chicken soup, Chicken Fried Rice or Chicken Noodles, if I remember correct. The restaurant also serves beer at the table, if not liquor, if I amn't mistaken. This seemed to be very convenient for patrons. Recently, I found out that they even have a full fledged bar, "Couchyn" within the hotel. The service was pretty slow once I placed the order. There was not much follow up even on water refills, etc. I also noticed that a different gentleman came to check on me and also on any further orders/requests, l might have had. Mr. Saji was very nice and helped me settle my bill. This was only after I made a personal request. I couldn't help, but notice that there weren't enough staff to manage the present crowd. The waiters were running around and trying to get caught up getting their orders and eventually serving their guests. I had nothing to complain about the food. The lunch, the next day was altogether a different story. I had to wait for my relative to show up at my hotel where I was staying, have a little chat and then proceed to the Grand. I ordered a typical Kerala lunch with rice and Karimeen (Pearlspot) pollichathu which was accompanied with payasam/desert. It was yummy. My Guest ordered Kerala lunch with the usual Curries, besides also ordered beef fry and fish curry. The longing for Kingfisher or the Indian branded beer selection was unfortunately unavailable, except for the usual American Miller version, Heineken and so forth. The lunch was great and we really enjoyed it. The prices at the Grand Pavillion are quite on the high side.
