It is the primary centre for Vueling and Level, as well as a focus city for easyJet, Ryanair, Air Europa, and Iberia.

The airport comprises two terminals, Terminal 1 (T1) and Terminal 2 (T2). Terminal 1, inaugurated in 2009, handles maximum flights and services both Schengen and non-Schengen flights. Terminal 2, which was designed before the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, has three sections, T2A, T2B, and T2C. T2 primarily handles only Schengen and non-Schengen services of low-cost and regional carriers.

Several transportation options are available to reach the city centre from the airport, including the Aerobús, taxi, private transfer or train. The R2 Nord train line connects the airport directly to the city centre. The subway, or 'metro,' is also available and connects both terminals to the Barcelona underground network.
