Forget five-star spas and Michelin-sniffing snobs. Bamboo's House in Dong Hoi is what traveling used to be about: messy, real, and dripping with local flavour. You won't find truffle foam on the menu (though the grilled squid's pretty damn close), but you will find the owner, Bamboo himself, sweating over a charcoal pit under a roof of starlight. This ain't some soulless resort bar. This is a rooftop where laughter mingles with smoke, fueled by cheap beer and cheap rooms (clean sheets, surprisingly?). Bamboo speaks English like he was raised on Hemingway novels, and knows this damn town like the back of his calloused hand. He hooked us up with a sunrise SUP trip through the jungle that felt like paddling into Kipling's wet dream. Magical? Hell yeah. Worth the price of a pack of smokes? Absolutely. Bamboo's House ain't fancy, but it's got soul. It's raw, it's real, and it'll leave you with a story that fancy cocktails and hotel spas can't buy. So ditch the brochures and find your way here. Just don't tell the Michelin inspectors, this secret's too good to share with the suits." One of the best places in Dong Hoi for your stay, both for one night or for a long time. Located opposite the sea, it provides you with the cozy atmosphere, nice rooms, friendly owner, who is fluent in English, and not to forget the great roof top bar! Mr Bamboo will help you to solve any kind of problem and his lovely place will be a second home for you here in Dong Hoi. Highly recommended.

Very unfriendly staff and owner, who unilaterally canceled my booking without saying anything, and kicked me out, insisting that they were booked out even though there were still rooms left on booking sites when I checked. (It was a busy weekend, so I guess they wanted to reserve the rooms for passing-by travelers who would pay more and so it wouldn’t cost them anything for the booking websites?) Based on prior reviews, it’s interesting how they are nice to the foreigners and just unwelcoming to fellow Vietnamese people. Just bad attitude.

Our stay at Bamboo's House in July (2019) was just what we needed. We arrived off a flight and were so thankful to crash in a beautiful little room that was clean, comfortable, and had great AC. There was plenty of space in the room, the bathroom was just what you'd need, and I would highly recommend staying here. Bamboo himself is extremely friendly and eager to make sure that his customers have a good stay. If you find you are greeted by a Vietnamese-speaking receptionist (she does speak English, just be patient!), you can always ask for Bamboo if you have a lot of questions or need help planning your time in the area. He offers light tours, can recommend tours, and runs stand up paddle adventures at the beach literally across the street from Bamboo's House. The place is cute, convenient, and laid-back. It's well located in Dong Hoi, close to a number of other cute coffee shops and such. Check this place out!
