Centurion Hotel & Spa Ueno Station

I booked the private Onsen room which was $450 a night. The room itself was very underwhelming. There was a super tiny garbage container in the room and there was no garbage container for the recycling which I found really surprising since the other hotel I went to (Which was $80 per night at the APA Ueno-Hirokoji) had two large containers for garbage and recycling. In the bathroom there was a super tiny garbage can and the bathroom amenities that was provided was very subpar for the price. In particular, the one-time use razors were just bad - I just expected a little better quality for such an expensive room. During the check-in, the person helping us wasn't welcoming but they did give all the necessary information for my stay. There is also only one elevator in the hotel which doesn't make too much sense to me. If you are wanting to use the elevator atone 9-11 AM then it can take a really long time before you can get on since everyone is trying to go on the elevator to check-out. When I was trying to use the laundry room (300 Yen for a wash and 100 Yen for drying) which is located on the second floor at 10:00 AM I had to wait 25 minutes before I could go to the second floor since every time the elevator opened it was packed to the brim with people making me unable to get in. I couldn't find stairs either to get to the second floor which made everything so inconvenient especially for the price. Since you are right next to Ameyoko Market, you get a lot of bright lights at night and can I was able to hear a lot of sirens at night. I understand that the room was expensive because of the private Onsen but I don't think that everything else justified the overall cost which is why I gave such a low rating. If the hotel was $250/$200 for each night then I wouldn't mind giving a 3* review.

Location is easy access to ueno park. That’s the only good side. The nonsmoking hotel had a significant smell to smoke, even with the window open all night we woke up with coughs and feeling lethargic because the air quality is so awful. Worst air quality in a hotel that I’ve ever experienced. The room is understandably small, and that would have been ok if it was clean. It was dirty everywhere—the bathroom grout was yellow, the toilet knobs had feces and other unclean parts. The air conditioning was unclean and caused even more issues for our lounges. We do not have asthma or any lung ailments (thankfully) but One night here and we felt as if we did. AVOID if you have asthma or other lung issues. AVOID if you like clean hotels. AVOID if you want fresh air. We booked 3 nights but only physically able to stay one night. When we first walked into the room we were disappointed, but we stayed for one night anyways. We made a mistake by even staying one night. Please learn from lesson and AVOID. Checking out early was also a struggle, the front desk had us call Priceline to cancel, but then we we were on the international call with Priceline they said the hotel WAS in fact able to cancel. It was very annoying.
