Delta Hotels Worsley Park Country Club

This large hotel/country club/spa/ golf club caters mainly for locals (those who golf or use the gym/spa facilities), corporate (and private) events, and business travellers. There are also a few patrons who take advantage of spa-break packages and the proximity to the airport, too (though the traffic in the area is notoriously bad, so give yourself time!). It's not really near to anywhere, however. For all that, albeit a massive gym, pool, sauna steam room, and plenty of lockers (self-input code, so you don't need that elusive pound coin!), the public areas are surprisingly poor. The bar (not a lobby bar, as it's not in the lobby) is small and staffed mostly by kids who look like they rather be elsewhere, and it's expensive (at more than £6 for a pint, most being at £6.50). Talking about kids, there are also plenty of the real kind running around, cartwheeling and whatnot, but perhaps parents are more to blame for that than the staff. The bar food is decent for a quick bite, and there is a meat/grill restaurant in site (though for food, go next door, to the Worsley Old Hall, not connected to the hotel, for a much better experience!). The Grill turns into the breakfast space, too. The options for breakfast are very good indeed with everything you could wish for from salmon to smoothies. An omelette-chef will make yours to your liking, or partake in the 3-4 different types of eggs available as standard anyway. The options also cater for all dietary needs (gluten, lactose and all that) and the coffee- machine is good. My room was large and comfortable with all necessary amenities (iron, tea/coffee-making facilities and a safe) including an ice-bucket because, yes, it is that kind of hotel and there are ice machines on all floors. Rooms are turned- over daily, but I wouldn't say cleaned daily. Front of house staff were friendly, but some of them might need some more training as simple things sometimes stumped them (no credit card to scan on check-in). There is a large car park (and yet patrons with a feeling of entitlement park their posh cars inconsiderately anywhere they can, possibly to show off their motors, or because they can't drive them correctly) and beautiful grounds. A courtyard, too, some of it covered and heated. Perhaps it's no surprise teams playing at Old Trafford often stay here, but perhaps that tells you something, too.

Food - 4/5 Service - 2/5 Ambience - 3/5 The rooms are quite old but well maintained. We stayed in the liberty hall suite and it’s huge and cozy. But it had entrance from outside meaning getting drenched in rain while going in and out of the restaurant, amenities etc. and who gives two double beds in a suite. I mean not even queen beds forget about king size. Bad combination for a suite. The breakfast was very tasty and the amenities are nice. My problem is with the service: they can’t give you extra water for free. They can’t send water to your room apparently. The staff was not even nice about it. I expected a little bit more courtesy especially the morning staff. They said thank you for being a platinum member with us umpteen number of times with no option for early check in nor late check out. Overall will not be returning to this Marriott again.
