The hotel has a great location for downtown festivities. The decor seems a little worn but nice. There's a bar/lounge in the lobby area that's nice to relax in or meet up with others. There was a Japanese garden that was beautiful but we couldn't take advantage of it during our stay because of the rain. Most days, all year, would probably be lovely for relaxing and gathering with friends and/or family.

The service, staff, and location were all great. We also had fun taking pictures with their Christmas decorations in the lobby and the Kyoto garden (floor G). Our room was small but thought it was a great layout given the common space restrictions in downtown areas. My nephew and I liked the gym area and restaurant bar, and he was particularly thrilled about us not feeling the earthquake at all the morning of 1/5 (he specifically asked I give an extra star for this). However, there was a musty smell as soon as we got off the elevator to our room (floor 11), a bit of water damage on the ceiling next to the shower (room 1115), one of the mattresses felt old (the other one was great), and the heating wasn’t working properly the night of 1/4/24 (the room felt cold and the temperature went down from 66 to 65 F even when setting it to 75 F).

DO NOT STAY HERE. There are currently workers from the hotel protesting out the front of the hotel with car horns, megaphones, drums, shouting and chanting as early as 5:30am. We were woken up abruptly on a day where our flight isn’t until 11pm tonight. The hotel should have communicated the striking/protesting action to guests before their stay to give them the opportunity to stay elsewhere to avoid the suspended hotel services and terrible noise distraction. I sent a message to the hotel and did not receive any response at all. Completely unacceptable and disappointing. Will not be staying at a Hilton/Double Tree again. Furthermore, the room was extremely outdated and needs to be completely overhauled. How this hotel has remained in business is a mystery to me. The value for the price is not justifiable. The room and bathroom were not spacious - could not close the door to the bathroom when in the toilet. We were told we would be in a king room, but were put in a room with two doubles and there was barely room to put our bags. Terribly uncomfortable having our legs hang over the end of the double bed. The TV had basic channels only with no ability to watch streaming services or screencast from a phone. No water or cups in the room. We are demanding a refund for our stay given the totally unacceptable experience we have had to endure. Rating it a 1 star because there is no option for zero stars.
