        Overall pretty fine, but a few things to consider. If you're in a new relationship and haven't clearly heard your better half evacuate their bowels, this hotel will give you that opportunity (no separate space for toilet). If you haven't ever climbed six flights of stairs to get to your room (broken elevator), there's a chance you could get to do this too. If you wonder why they provide earbuds, you'll soon find out. Also. The toilet is tiny - see my feet for a point of reference from the glass door non-sound muffling door. I'm 196cm and barely bad it in. Of all the places to skimp on space. Rooms were well appointed but small. Soundproofing is fairly non-existent.

        Overall the room was clean, complimentary toiletries, etc. were of good quality and the bed very comfortable. Staff were pleasant and check in / out easy enough. Would recommend bypassing the breakfast and grabbing this elsewhere, as on both days of my stay there was minimal food left over for those attending after 8am. What was left wasn’t great ie hot food had obviously been sitting over a long period of time with the scrambled eggs almost soup like, bacon sitting in a lake of oil and very tough, no butter left for toast, coffee / milk canisters near on / or empty.

        I enjoyed my short stay at this stylish, understated boutique hotel. I was in Auckland for a family reunion and wanted to do a bit of shopping also. The location was perfect for this - right in the heart of the shopping area and an easy walk to the waterfront. The room was stylishly furnished and I particularly liked the bathroom. If I could have a perfect bathroom in my house, I'd have this one! Loved the 'bling' wall tiling and the spacious shower. Just one small thing - the website promised bathrobe and slippers, but there were none in my room. I had to ask for them. If these are no longer standard, perhaps the website could be updated.

        Filthy. Upon initial entry, there were little hairs all over the vanity kit on the sink and in the shower. The wallpaper looked worn and was peeling up from the walls. The carpets felt/smelled gross. I couldn’t get comfortable for our stay. We even found a cleaning staff outside our room and asked her to come in and clean again. She came in with no shoes (yucky), and didn’t catch any of the hairs I explicitly mentioned to her. This was in no way a clean hotel; however, the staff that helped us move rooms and tried to make things right was greatly appreciated. There is too much emphasis on being gaudy and “boutique” that function is lost. The rooms were small, and it was impossible to shower without flooding the entire bathroom. I felt strongly about writing this because we were sincerely thrown by the lack of hygiene after reading many reviews prior to booking. Stay was in November of 2023.

        The Fable is a gorgeous place to stay. Was gifted from my children for my birthday and the staff truely made the effort to ensure we were looked after. Outstanding customer service when arriving followed with checking in being accompanied with mini cup of tea and brownie, great touch for first impression. The staff were welcoming the entire stay, personalised card and macaroon when arriving at our luxury room which was styled very art deco feel and classy. We experienced the High Tea during our stay which was absolutely divine accompanied with the trio of cocktails, well worth the money, would have to be the best one I have had. You won’t be disappointed choosing to stay at this hotel, well positioned amongst quality shops and close to the waterfront, very central.
