        As someone who sometimes feel that hotels can give me the creepy vibes , this hotel thankfully did not. The corridors are brightly lit and the carpets are bright, giving a refreshing and welcoming feel. I can see that they have put in the effort to improve despite being an old hotel. The hotel smells neutral ,no bad smell or whatsoever. What I also like is their spacious toilet. It will be quite wheelchair friendly if you bring old folks because it is really big. The pillow isn't the most comfortable, however the bed is huge. The room is quite spacious , as you would expect of the older days hotel. They also give you 2 apples and multiple water bottles in the room. The egg sandwich from their cafeteria was nice , reminded me of the good old days in the 90s, just pure simple egg sandwich with lots of fresh veggie and tomatoes in it. What they can improve on if they ever renovate again: remove bath tubs, replace old picture frames as they really don't fit in , replace wallpaper with something more modern, and finally pls change the TV as it is super old.

        We were charged an extra “tourist fee” without notice. Booked on a third party website and payment was taken from there via credit. They scammed us at reception. The room smells and the wifi is non-existent. There are no redeeming qualities about this dated hotel constructed in the 1970’s. The renovations are an absolute joke. The furniture style is from the 70s-80s, and the carpeted flooring reeks of mildew. We regret booking this place for a few nights and cannot recommend it to anyone. We failed to do our research about Penang, Malaysia. Maybe our expectations were too high after traveling from Thailand. The highly rated reviews for Evergreen make absolutely no sense. The windows cannot be opened for fresh air, the carpet is dated and very dirty, there’s no fans in the washrooms (as a result, some mould build up), the hallways are also carpeted. I guess if you enjoy a good flashback to the 70s-80s, this would be the perfect accommodation for you! On a positive note, the rooms are spacious and the ceiling is high. It has amazing potential if renovated.

        Room has improved a great deal since my last visit before the pandemic. The toilet is running without a problem, the carpet is clean up; renewed, and the aircond is just right. It was noisy previously. The service is excellent; my door latch dropped off and it was fixed by the house keeping. Food is economical; worth the price. The people are well trained and courteous all the way. Evergreens Laurel has regained its shine!

        Just had a stay at this hotel on Gurney Drive and had to drop a review. First things first, the location is a total win. It's smack dab in the middle of all the cool touristy stuff, which was awesome because I could just walk to most places. The room rates, especially during peak season, were surprisingly affordable. I was bracing for a wallet hit, but it turned out to be a pretty sweet deal. The room I stayed in was clean. Housekeeping did a great job, so kudos to them. But if you're into modern, chic designs, this might not be your cup of tea. The room had an old-school vibe which was okay for me, but I guess it depends on your taste. Another thing I loved was the free parking. If you've ever tried to find parking around Gurney Drive, you know it's like a treasure hunt. So, having a spot at the hotel was a huge relief. But here's a heads-up: getting around the hotel can be a bit tricky. They've got this system with separate lifts, and the walkway connecting parts of the hotel felt cramped and not exactly smooth sailing. Not a deal-breaker, but something to keep in mind, especially if you've got lots of luggage. Overall, I'd say it's a pretty good place to stay. It balances out with the location and rates, despite a few quirks. Would recommend it if you're planning a trip around Gurney Drive and want a place that's easy on the pocket but still decent.

        Check in was a breeze, room is spotlessly clean, breakfast has enough choices and the foods were fresh. One of the better breakfasts for rooms under RM500. Staff was friendly, and helpful without being too intrusive. Parking was good as well and shaded making loading and unloading bags easy and location is great for visiting Georgetown and Gurney area. Pool was great and clean, but we do wish some pool tables or ping-pong tables for sport. Tennis was available as well. Concierge was helpful as well, as we needed towels and bottles of water at 1am and they delivered.
