Hotel Landy Orlando Universal Blvd., a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

The single biggest issue of this hotel is their failure to communicate information, which led to an okay stay that was devalued in experience and elevated in price to an awful stay. My partner and I planned a one night stay for our anniversary, and paid for a one night package with parking including. As many of the other reviews have noted, upon pulling up to the hotel, it became clear from the construction equipment all over the parking lot that the place was under heavy renovations. Please note, as plenty of other reviews say, this was not advertised anywhere. Multiple of the amenities were closed as a result, yet a full price for the room was paid. Why this was not disclosed was beyond me. We checked in about 8 PM and made our way to our room. There were a lot of new fixtures, many of which had brand new tape on them. The room was nice and felt new. We dropped off our stuff and went to the restaraunt, which we were told was one of the few amenities open. No one seated us upon getting there, and when we say ourselves, there did not appear to be any servers, so we left. Please note that any service people we did interact with were friendly. The real fun began at 2 AM when a transformer exploded and the room intercom ushered us all outside...sort of. Half the guests were allowed to stay in the lobby, which feels like a blatant violation of an evacuation order. I'm not mad that we had to evacuate; emergencies happen. What I am mad about is that after an hour, we were told we could return to our rooms, which had no electricity or air. Again, the manager who allowed us to go back did not disclose this. We got our stuff and began to checkout. This brought up a whole new frustration. The front desk receptionist only said she would comp parking, which I found unacceptable. I requested the whole night be comped due to poor communication regarding the whole experience. She agreed, gave me no receipt, sent me on my way. The real fun came later. When I got my invoice, not only did they not comp the room, they have not refunded the deposit fee (which they said would be removed at checkout), but they did actually charge me additionally for parking...despite the fact I paid for the parking package. We've had to call customer service to even try to have this reserved. A one night stay at a hotel has cost me over 75 dollars more than I originally paid, and was met with inaccurate statements and outright lies to placate guests. I am sure the hotel will be lovely when renovated. An, I am not upset about the emergency. It is the lack of communication and outright falsehood regarding the experience and finances that are leading me to writing this. I am an Orlando resident, and cannot, for any reason, recommend staying here.

Hotel didn’t say anything about how it was under construction so we couldn’t use the lobby or the pool and there was so much pounding and drilling above us it kept waking us up. It smelled horrific outside, like someone died. Service is terrible, never answered our phone calls from our rooms and the walls are so paper thin we could hear the girls next to our room laughing so loud last night, hard to fall asleep. Coffee machine in our room didn’t work and there’s no microwave. Elevators suck as well, so slow to get us and they would sit at the floor they’re on forever and not move at all. Overall a bad experience.
