Came here with some friends to see Hakone and we had a very good experience. I had a booking issue which the staff were extremely helpful and forthcoming in sorting out, despite the language barrier. They were professional, polite and pleasant. The service was great, the room was nice and the location is a nice short walk from town. If you're a but older, you might want to look up transport timetables, but for a few 20 year olds it's really nothing. So you avoid all the tourist bustle and there's also a hotel bus route if you don't want to haul your luggage up or down.

We stayed one night here and enjoyed our experience. We booked a Japanese style room with private onsen (rooms with private onsens are on 2nd/3rd floor). The sink was in main room while there are separate rooms for toilet and bath. Agree with other reviews that the hallways, elevators were a bit dated, but our room was very clean and appreciated that it had a welcome mochi, water bottles, all toiletries, hot water dispenser and tea bags available. The room was set up as a sitting area when we arrived and staff set up beds for us while we were at dinner. The dinner and breakfast buffets were timed reservations chosen during check in and food was abundant with choices and tasty. We also enjoyed the all gender foot bath that overlooks the hills and a smal garden. Staff were very courteous and most spoke English to accommodate us. After seeing other reviews about the 25 min or so walk uphill, we decided to store our rolling luggage in a coin locker at Odawara station (back up was the odakyu sightseeing service center). We generally don't have difficulty with walking so the walk was doable with just day packs but we saw others with their luggages as well. It was nice to walk through the main street, by the river and see the scenery.

Y'all really had me with all the negative comments regarding cleanliness and that wasn't even the case at all. The instructions on how to get to the hotel is clear and are provided in the website (under the tab Access) and it does include a table as to when the bus is there to pick you up from the Hakone Yumoto Station. We used the bus to get to the hotel, but we chose to walked down ourselves to get back to the station and it was a 10-15 min walk at most (and we would recommend this route if you need to leave early because it's way easier to walk downhill than uphill). My friends and I had gotten the Japanese Western room with 2 beds and with a private onsen in the room. It was FANTASTIC. Everything was clean and the smell that people talked about is literally just natural herbal scents. It might smell off if you're not used to it but it doesn't mean the hotel is filthy. All the toiletries are provided here including toothbrushes and toothpaste so no need to worry about it. The upper levels have the public baths that are separated by gender but there is a cool public footbath for all genders that we found where you can sit around and massage your feet. It was very relaxing. We had a private traditional Japanese dinner and our waitress was super nice and google translator saved the day. The food was great too and don't forget the dessert! As for the breakfast buffet, make sure you bring the ticket that they give you when you check-in because they need to take it when you go to the buffet. There was a PLETHORA of delicious foods and fantastic view (if you were lucky and got the window seats). When you're done eating, you just leave your plates and tray there, someone will pick it up and put it away. There's also a souvenir shop on the first level near the reception desk where they have cool knickknacks and snacks. Overall, this was a great visit and I will absolutely be coming back. The service, food, and dollar price was fantastic.

I was a little nervous to come here after seeing negative reviews but I was pleasantly surprised! We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in a Japanese Western room with private open air bath. The room was clean and well-equipt. The private open air bath was a dream. The staff were very kind and many spoke good enough English. We chose the option with breakfast buffet and kaiseki dinner, the breakfast buffet was unfortunately the same every day but overall not bad. The kaiseki dinner was good and I think they realized we were there for three days so they made an effort to make a different menu for us than what others were having as I believe the set menu doesn't rotate much. The hotel itself is a touch dated but overall we were satisfied with our rooms. The better open air public bath is at the neighboring hotel (Yu no Sato) which you also have access to. The hotel itself is a bit difficult to get to as there is no hotel shuttle, however we were able to catch the bus for 100yen from the bus station to the hotel upon arrival. Upon departure we just walked the 15-20min to the train station since it is all downhill and therefore much easier with bags. For daytime excursions, walking to/from the bus station is not difficult if you do not have luggage.

Location is bad and it takes 30 mins walk to Hakkone Station. This area (with other onsen hotels along the river) only provides small shuttel bus and few taxis. We tried to make reservation of taxi but the answer was fully booked. The hotel suggested us to wait for shuttle bus or "WALK" (with two large 28" luggages and a 6 years old boy). Then we waited 45 mins ( the sencond shift) for always fulled small bus. The bus only allow five people to get in for there were other hotels guests would take the shuttle bus as well. Most insaned was we found out the hotel drove a van to carried eardly people and foreigners (non asians) to the station. Buffet dinner was awfully poored and only allows one hour to eat. All dishes was on the budgets and taste worst than japan convenient stores bentos. And we atually bought our dinner of bentos rather than the hotel buffet dinner which we already paid. We paid totally over 100,000yens for two nights and it was not a good experience. The only good is their onsen.
