Hotel Republic San Diego, Autograph Collection

Our experience at Hotel Republic was disappointing. On the surface the hotel looks very nice and has great aesthetics, but it’s the small details that show the real quality of the hotel. In addition to lack of attention to detail, our room had a flooding issue and completely saturated the carpet. We were woken up at 9am to what sounded like a massive rat in the walls digging its way out. However, it was the maintenance man snaking drains, which almost seems worse. The noise went on for over an hour. This seems like a task that could have waited till noon. The valet was subpar at best. They do not greet you, help with bags, or hold doors. Takes about 15 minutes to retrieve the car. They say valet is 24 hours, however valet was not available when we returned our car at 11pm. I went back down about an hour later to see if valet had returned and they had not. The front desk said they didn’t know when valet would be available and was “trying to get ahold of them”. For $56 a day I had expected more from valet. They have a $25 daily service fee which you can use on food or drink, but just seems like a new way to get money out of guests. I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the hotel staff was kind. They waived the valet fee for the night my car was not put away, and gave us a daily credit of $50 instead of $25 to use on food and drink to compensate for the wet carpet in our room. This isn’t the cheapest hotel in the area, so for the quality and experience I would save $70 a night and try a motel 6.

We absolutely enjoyed Hotel Republic. I didn't know much about San Diego, so after reading about different neighborhoods, took a chance that totally paid off. The hotel is in a great location - close to the Embarcadero, Gaslamp, and Little Italy. It's in an area that is very quiet and there are enough cafes and restaurants around. The hotel is cozy and our room was large and comfortable. Great king- size bed! Would have liked some robes and slippers, but that's the only negative for me. There's a rooftop bar and a restaurant downstairs. The menu isn't extensive, but we tried several things (including breakfast) and the quality and presentation were excellent 👌 The gym is good too, if you need it, and there's free yoga at 7:30 am, as part of the hotel package. And free bikes, too. Everyone was helpful and super nice! If we come back to San Diego, I would love to stay here again!
