This hostel needs a complete revamp as it is extremely run-down. The rooms were damp, mouldy, and smelly, with questionable stains on the walls and a filthy mattress. The girls next door to me had a leak from the ceiling which soaked all of their clothes. I received an electric shock from a wire hanging below the table. I felt that complaints about this and the filthiness of the rooms were not met with enough seriousness - only laughing and joking. There is a pool which no one seemed to use as it didn’t look too appealing. Furthermore the showers had no hot water and the toilets had no soap. This is a shame as everything else was nice, they have a great social area on the top floor, with free breakfast (albeit basic) and a delicious free evening meal and cooking class. There are even hammocks on the roof with a beautiful view overlooking the trees. The staff are friendly and I met a lot of great travellers. I am not alone in my views and heard many other guests complain about the dirtiness of the place and how dilapidated it is. I wanted to give more stars but I think the place is a hazard to health and I felt dirty after staying in my room. The owners are good people but they really need to invest in the property and completely refurbish the rooms as they are disgusting and the mould can cause health complications. If you don’t mind sleeping in a gross room for a night or two and want somewhere cheap to meet lots of backpackers then this place is for you.

The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the cooking class and dinner are great!! However, cleanliness could be improved, and there was no soap in the bathroom. My private room was quite old, smelled a little bit damp and there was no bedside table, just a bed. But for this cheap price, it’s what you get!

The rooms are basic but the bed it gets all the essentials right: great mattress, airco. The personal is exceptionally kind, even for Sri Lanka. We especially loved the cooking class, this was very educational and a good way to meet people.
