        This was our second stay at Kinoe. Whilst the rooms, service & traditional Japanese breakfast was excellent. After four nights paid upfront on Expedia for family of four. I think it disgraceful we had to pay in cash only contrary to sign on counter inviting visa debit as we carry, 100,000 for breakfast. Goodbye there are plenty of worthy competitors who will accept our card when we next return to kyoto.

        It's must stay. A traditional Japanese Ryokan with exceptional service and incredible is a must for a visit in Kyoto. The public bath was a fantastic experience that I would highly recommend. The public bath may seem intimidating at first, but once you actually enter the area, it's actually really pleasant. There's even steps on Japanese public bath etiquette with pictures to help tourists understand. The staff were really kind and friendly, although there is a language barrier they still tried their best. Reception is clean, and the staff who help with checks in do speak English.

        Honestly, the staff was polite; however, I can not recommend staying at this ryokan at all. It was quite expensive even divided amongst the five of us traveling together, it cost more for one night here than it did for the following 4 nights at our next (and more comfortable accomodations that we stayed at after). We had the super "private garden" room, which really just means you share a partial view of the front stone garden that actually just makes you exposed to the lobby, since it's shared with the lobby. The futon were comfortable and everything was clean enough etc, however we were not offered or served any dinner or breakfast, and the sento (which the guys in our group were able to use, but my SO couldn't use the female one since she has tattoos) was a bit small but "fine". Though a few minutes in time offset and it would have been far to crowded as there's room for 4 people in there and another 4+ showed up to use it as we were leaving. Give the cost and minor complications, this roykan was quite unfortunately one of the biggest disappointments of our trip to Japan, and it made me regret including it in our plans. I can't speak to their food, as we weren't given any, and just got handed keys to our room, some tea and told to be in before midnight if we didn't want to be locked out. Checkout was at 10am.

        From the moment we arrived to the moment we left this place was amazing. The service from the staff is unparraled by any of the other places I've visited in Japan so far. The location if out the way but still on a busy road so you can slightly hear the road related noises however they are only slightly audible and inaudible at night. The aircon is loud on the other had and produces a low level of white noise when on. The food, both dinner and breakfast, make sure you pack yourself an extra stomach because the serving sizes are very generous and delicious. The best wagu I've had in Japan thus far and the staff that make the meal with you are super helpful. While their English is a little weak it is more then sufficient to understand what is going on and what each item is. If you want to go to the temples I highly recommend staying in this ryokan or a one in the area became it is extremely close to the weatern temples. The public bath was something ill miss when I go back home. It was relaxing and soothing. The only problem was the hair drier in the male bath being broken but the amenities more then make up for it.

        Stayed here for a night in Kyoto and loved it. First time I've slept on a tatami floor and found it comfortable. The hosts were kind and spoke English well, fully recommend. If you stay here there's a great ramen joint across the street from the entrance!

          Booking Policy
          It is mandatory for all guests to present valid government photo ID’s at the time of check-in.
