Misleading 5-star reviews. For this price, you can get much better service, food and rooms in other hotels. Unlike other hotels I’ve tried in Japan, the staff here are rude and unfriendly. Dinner took a long time to be served. While the private bath room was pleasant, you can get similar ones at more affordable prices. I am baffled by the 5-star reviews on google; people who rated them highly have probably never been to an authentic ryokan.

It's a little expensive, but I really enjoyed staying for two nights here. For me, it was absolutely worth it. I can only speak a little Japanese, but had no issues with communication. You can enjoy a free 24 hour private onsen, free drinks in the lobby, free ice cream bars, free soba at night. The breakfast in the morning was nice too. In the afternoon, you can make self made matcha or enjoy free drinks in the lobby. The staff is very kind to foreigners and they have a nice small souvenir shop. Not to mention the location is so nice, from here I walked to other temples and shrines. When I first entered the staff member that checked me in was so sweet in her explanation, so again thank you.

Great super nice wonderful friendly staff. But if you are American, difficulty in communicating is frustrating. Outrageously expensive for the bar options and otherwise, but such friendly staff. Spa is nice but overall not worth the price, for American dollars anyway.... loud at night sometimes, lots of loud children. Across the street from train station and beautiful bridge and river restaurants is convenient, though, and nice that hot spring in hotel has private and public options available, both are fairly clean.

Like this hotel very much! Would love to visit again. Staff: very friendly and welcoming staff Drinks and snacks: free, with lots of choices Night snack: free Ramen Meals: delicious breakfast buffet, tasty and sumptuous dinner Room: clean, comfortable and spacious (bigger than expected / appeared on photos). Extra and different kinds of pillows available on 1F. Location: beautiful and convenient, convenice store nearby, about 10 minutes walk to the famous Togetsu-kyo Bridge and tourist attractions Hot Spring: 5 private hot springs, and other hot springs

Those who rated this place a 5 stars probably have never stayed in a good ryokan before. This self-acclaimed ‘ryokan’ runs more like a 2-star hotel at most. When we checked in, the reception was full of people and luggages. There was barely any space for us to get around comfortably. No help offered to bring luggage to our rooms either. Food is mediocre. Don’t expect much variation within your meals if you’re staying more than one night, which beats the purpose of the standard of having kaiseki meals. Also, they often run out of food during their buffet breakfast (even basic items like rice!) Private baths are practically impossible to get into, especially during peak seasons. Avoid this ‘ryokan’ if you’re hoping to have a relaxing time. Definitely not worth the hefty price you have to pay. If you are travelling by train, then I suppose the location is convenient. But that doesn’t justify the price of staying here sadly.
