Mövenpick Villas & Residences Phu Quoc

This place does not exude luxury. It’s very busy and crowded. The check in and check out process was shocking, we waited 20minutes both times. We have never had to wait around for room service to check our room for incidentals prior to check out. Staff should also check if guests are in the right hotel prior to being sat down to wait. Stand out staff member was Henry at the reception, he remembered our names when he bumped into us in and around the hotel and explained the hotel amenities and services thoroughly and clearly at check in. The resort is very spread out and you need to take a free hotel shuttle to the actual main hotel to access the beach, pool and beach cafe. This wasn’t a huge concern but it came as a bit of a shock as we expected all amenities to be within close proximity of our room. There seems to be wetlands around the hotel which does not contribute to a great view. The breakfast buffet was very enjoyable with lots of vegetarian options and it paid homage to the local food instead of being too westernised. There was no waiters to take coffee orders, it was all DIY. Room was clean and had good amenities. The floors aren’t very well insulated, we could hear people from the room above using the bathroom and dragging chairs. The pool beds and bright blue outdoor dining chairs are super cheap and tacky and do not contribute to the 5 star experience. We didn’t use the villa pool because there was no shade, we used the main pool mainly for the view. The plastic plants and vines everywhere is off putting. Free airport shuttle bus available, bookings are required 24 hours prior. Foam party was a huge let down. It’s more for kids and only had one foam machine in a cordoned off area. DJ wasn’t great. Overall it’s a good hotel for young families but I wouldn’t recommend it for couples or older families. It just doesn’t provide that luxury guest experience and misses the mark of providing a 5 star service and stay.

We booked beach front villa for good quality vacation but ended up in resort that wanted to avoid - with massive presence of budget customers with service calibrated to fit their cost base. This made our holidays a complite mixed bag of bad and good. Breakfast was nothing to expect from 5* hotel of this chain.... we had to constantly cope with tourists trespassing our villa front yard... etc.... However this Hotel has quite good potential but most probably is desparate in filling in own capacity, what foces some not best management decisions. We had unfortunately moved there after first part of our holidays spend in Pullman Phu Quoc and this even enhanced our negative opinnion as we had a local benchmark that proved that issue is not related to island but different management style. Pullman was fighting to maintan quality accepting lower ocupancy Movenpick have chosen different strategy.
