Real InterContinental San Salvador at Metrocentro Mall by IHG

I was really looking forward to experiencing the best of the best at this hotel. Unfortunately, it did not exceed my expectations. I was recommended this Hotel by family so was confident I was staying in the best. We made our reservations two months in advance and expected that was enough time for them to have everything organized as they should being a hotel of “high expectation”. One: we called in advanced to notify them our flight was late and we would be there past checking time. Two: we also called to make pick up arrangements that never transpired. Three: when booking online you cannot check in prior but they do not tell you that they only take a deposit payment and you have to pay the rest at the hotel. No one wants to be bothered with these hassles after flying 6 hours. We were never notified about this until we got to the hotel. The Hotel on the outside is very beautiful however inside it is very outdated, old and needs a lot of repairs and upgrades. The rooms are very low grade quality, but I will say it was clean despite the cracks and mildew in the washrooms due to humidity because THEY DO NOT HAVE FANS IN THEIR WASHROOMS!! Another issue for me was they do not have balconies?!?!!!! No ventilation if there’s no AC or it breaks down. This Hotel has way too many events which makes it very noisy and busy in the lobby and at all types of hours of the night. It’s very overwhelming and annoying. They do not include complementary breakfast for certain rooms and I feel like for th price you pay to stay here that’s the minimal they should do. The gym is a total joke. The machines are very old and outdated. They don’t have enough equipment to get a full work out done. The carpet is gross and dirty. They don’t have sanitary napkins or sprays available (had to buy my own) and don’t have enough towels out or clean water to drink from. The sauna was not even in working conditions which was a huge let down. I don’t know how a Hotel of this calibre charge so much and not invest back into it. The pool, also another disappointment. We were waken at 9:30 in the morning to the sound of what seemed to be contractors renovating the room above us. There’s really not enough good things I can say about this Hotel other than the location. It was an absolute disaster and disappointment to stay here. The only nice part of our stay was the lady who cleaned our room whom was such a sweet hard working individual. She made sure our room was attended too and left waters for us. Because they do not even have coffee, tea bags or a pot to make hot water in. Mind you the ice bucket didn’t have disposable bags. I absolutely will not be staying here on my next visit and will be looking into researching a hotel before I book. Be aware before you book here. If you are booking for more than a week look elsewhere. People that are giving this Hotel 4-5 stars are only staying here the night or 3 days at most. It really is not worth the hype.
