Seehotel Kastanienbaum

Beautiful views, Great Lake access, decent restaurant. HOWEVER, do not stay here if it is summer. There is no AC and the rooms are stuffy and too hot to sleep. The staff will provide you with a small fan for the room, but there are 3 problems with this: 1. The fan will not cool the room, it will still be intolerably hot. 2. There are no screens so the room will be full of bugs. We had mosquitoes (and bites) all night and a moth the size of a small bird flew in. 3. The balconies are all shared with adjacent rooms, and many people in Switzerland smoke, so the room will be filled with second hand smoke morning and night. We wanted to like this hotel, and the setting is great, but the rooms are so awful for sleeping we checked out a day early, even though we had prepaid, and the staff would not offer even a partial refund. Best avoided.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Seehof Hotel Kastanienbaum in Lucerne, and I must say that it was a complete disappointment. Despite the promising aspects of this hotel, my stay was marred by a series of issues that left me thoroughly unsatisfied. To begin with, the hotel's location is indeed beautiful, offering stunning views, an outstanding terrace, and convenient access to city transport and a nearby ferry. The food at the hotel's restaurant, while ridiculously pricey, was of good quality. The private beach and pool were also a nice touch, adding to the initial appeal of the place. However, the moment I entered my room (103), any sense of luxury or comfort quickly evaporated. It felt like I had been assigned a room that was either out of service or long overdue for renovation. The bed was a disaster; the springs were so worn out that I could feel every single one of them, making sleep nearly impossible. To make matters worse, the room was infested with mosquitoes and due to the absence of screens on the windows, making it impossible to open them for fresh air. My night was further ruined when I woke up with numerous bites all over my body. I'm not sure if they were bed bugs or some other type of critter, but it was a truly unpleasant and unsanitary experience. Adding insult to injury, the room was located right above the restaurant, resulting in constant smoke wafting in and the lack of air conditioning made it impossible to escape. The cleanliness of the room left much to be desired as well. There was a disturbing bloodstain on one of the pillows, which was not only unsightly but also unsanitary. In addition, the shower randomly turned on at 6:30 am on its own and the drain was clogged. To top it all off, there was a lamp in the room that I initially thought was an artistic decoration, but it turned out to be broken. After some negotiation with the staff, I was moved to another room that had foam mattresses, which was a massive improvement over the spring bed. In light of this disastrous experience, I believe the hotel should have been embarrassed by the state of the room they provided. We missed an entire day of our trip due to the sheer exhaustion caused by getting only three hours of sleep the previous night. In my opinion, the Seehof Hotel Kastanienbaum should have offered a refund for the ordeal they subjected me to or comped our meals. Overall, I would strongly advise against staying at this hotel, as my experience was nothing short of a nightmare.
