With hotels today you have to make choices. Either how modern the hotel itself is or the people who are there to serve. This hotel the staff / team are awesome and highly adaptive. The hotel itself is showing signs of aging. Yet given I’ve travelled the world multiple times; the true worth is in the people who embrace the hotels values and culture. This hotel is a great example. It’s long in the tooth. The shopping mall beside is dated. The surrounding areas are somewhat old, yet the smile and welcoming offers by Shanghai-La never fail. I much prefer the personal ‘in the moment’ experiences v’s the latest chair to sit in. The Shanghai-La simply is the best of the best when it comes to service.

The check in time is 3pm, but there were no rooms available… not the first time, and I was not the only one… The baby is tired? You can wait in the sofa with the other people… (that were also waiting for their room). And when I got the room, the luggage that they took from me wasn’t even there, so I had to wait 10 more minutes. The room is nice and the decoration is beautiful, but the service is definitely lacking.

Great facility but mixed feedback on the service. We dropped off our bags in advance to parking in the parking lot, when we checked in we instructed the front desk to send our bags to the room. However it didnt show up till 2 hours after our arrival, we were preoccupied with our toddler so we didnt notice but after he went for his nap and our luggage hasnt arrived thats when we were upset. We had my child’s meals and perishables in one bag and by the time he located our stuff it was all melted… it turned out, our bags were sent to another room… Traveling with kids is already hectic enough but your front office didnt make the process easier. NOT KID FRIENDLY… the walls are super thin so you can hear next door so easily.
