        Beautiful historic building, well maintained and charming. Rooms are very small, but well furnished and Updated. Bathroom and room itself was very clean and everything was in working order. Desk staff was friendly and accommodating for my last stay. A big improvement over previous stays.

        This place is conveniently located to Union Square. Hotel was dark and dirty; ants crawling around on shabby rugs in the lobby. I requested that my room be cleaned (must provide 24 hours notice AND request it yourself), and it took two days for my room to be cleaned. Some of the hotel staff is completely unprofessional, and at one point, harassed a colleague of mine because of a PRIVATE conversation he was having. The staff pursued both my colleague and me into the street badgering us for our room number because "a guest" complained about a conversation we were having, which was completely innocent and irrelevant to anyone else. They literally tried to intimidate us based on something overheard (wrongly, I might add) by a "Karen" who didn't have the guts to say something herself. Mind you, I stayed here a week and this is how the staff acted. It was so ridiculous that it was surreal. This place gets an "F" in the customer service category. Meanwhile, people were slamming doors all night which rattled the walls down the entire hallway. Where was Karen then? Will not return. This truly was a "get what you pay for" scenario. I've stayed in classier hostels. In response to the assistant manager’s rebuttal: right, but your employees PURSUED me into the street asking for my room number based on hearsy, which is harassment. That’s the problem, but also entitled, Karenesque types given that much sway.

        We stayed here for 6 nights and had an excellent stay. Harold and Josh at the front desk were very helpful, friendly, and welcoming. Our room was remodeled (loved the bathroom tile, with a view of the city from the shower, with awesome water pressure and very hot water), clean and comfortable, with the character of older San Francisco days. The bed was comfortable; the sheets were clean. We had an entertaining view of the city below that was fun to sit and watch throughout the day. This hotel is in an excellent location. However, some might feel it isnt a safe location, but I imagine these are simple country folk who would complain about any big city. Across the street is a 24 hour 711, and a Walgreens with typical business hours. We didn't rent a car or drive; we had a refreshing time exploring the city on foot. The steep sidewalks made for good exercise and interesting views of architecture. It was fun to feel like a local, and find non-touristy restaurants in the nooks and crannies of the city. If you are looking for a large room, just remember you are in a city, and an old one that doesn't have much space to begin with. This city is 7 miles by 7 miles (Hence the name the 49ers). It is a peninsula surrounded by water. So don't expect a massive and sprawling hotel like you'd find in the suburbs. Close proximity to shopping such as Macys, Louis Vutton, etc. if youre into that sort of thing while you're on vacation. Fisherman's Wharf is walking distance (2-ish miles each way), as well as Chinatown. This hotel is near the Muni busline, as well as a stop for the vintage cable car. I could hear the chime in the distance from my room, which I enjoyed. One additional positive is that the city has low air pollution, due to MANY electric vehicles as well as public transportation. This is also great when walking, as you don't smell the fragrant fumes from gasoline cars. It also cuts down on the sound immensely. The electric cars are almost silent. It was nice to be able to carry on a conversation while walking. Overall, we had an excellent time in SF and in a great hotel. Thanks again to Harold and Josh at the front desk. They made our stay much more welcoming, even on the Thanksgiving holiday. We will be back!!!

        Great place to stay. Rooms are in good conditions for being a bit older, you can tell the effort to keep them mantained and upgraded. The staff are great, very attentive providing great recommendations. On our last day, we were living at midnight and they offer storage while we continued to explore the city. And the best part is the location. It is near a lot of restaurants and bars and you can easily walk to alot of San Francisco attractions. Felt safe walking at night in the area. Will definately stay here again when I am back in San Francisco.

        Stayed in September 2023 with family. Excellent Overall. Location is just Perfect safe and vibrant. Rooms and Toilets are Good clean and tidy. All Staff are just sweet and available for your help right from check in till check out. Morning tea and coffee at right time. Definately recommend
