We came for dinner at the inn and had a beyond magical experience throughout. It was our long delayed honeymoon and couldn’t have had a better experience. The food incredible, local, authentic with a twist and approachable for foreigners that enjoy local foods perfectly created. The owner chef, and hosts were gracious and gave great overviews of the history and food. A no brainer visit. We only wish we could have also stayed at the inn! On our next trip to Kyoto we will. Don’t think about it. Just come to izuyasu.

Inspired by the seasonal poem we were given before our 7 course meal, I too will recite a poem: As the leaves fall down Izuyasu comes alive Yukata Saikou From the moment we walked in it felt like we walked into a warm and inviting environment. Gorgeous wooden accents, a regal garden in the centre of the ryokan kept pristine, a breakfast room with elegant ancient artwork, and dinnerware almost as old as the 170+ year history. The staff were inviting, bright, positive, and accommodating. The room was spacious and very traditional. Wearing the provided yukata provided made us smile from ear to ear. The family style onsens can be booked when you check in but there is no need to worry about timing. They will find you an availability. Crowning jewel of our stay was the kaiseki dinner. The owner of the ryokan himself was the chef for the meal, and similar to an omakaze we got to watch the chef cook. There are only 6 seats each day for dinner, and the price is fairly expensive but it was an unforgettable experience and easily Michelin star quality. We were addressed at the end of the meal by the owner (which was translated by the staff) It was a incredible experience to end off the meal. For Izuyasu: Modotte Kuru!!!! (We will come back) Even if thing change and your son or daughter greets us, we know we will have a great time.

Staying at this ryokan was the highlight of our trip to Japan. It felt like we were a part of history by staying and eating here. The hospitality was unbelievable. We were greeted by two english speakers from the UK which was a surprise at first, but it totally enhanced our experience because they could perfectly translate everything the chef was doing/explaining. The food was amazing and had a great drink selection. The whole place was clean and designed very well. Our room was very comfortable. I cannot explain how much this place will enhance your trip to Japan!!

This is such a special experience to stay here. I recommend staying for two nights if you can. The dinner is definitely worth the money, especially at the counter (it's a 2 hour, multi course ordeal). The Shin room is beautiful, with a view of both gardens. The beds were so comfortable, and were essentially very firm mattresses that were directly on the ground (moreso than a Japanese futon). I got an amazing night's sleep. Do be aware that this ryokan is almost exclusively patronized by English speakers, not Japanese locals. That could be a positive or a negative depending on what you're looking for. It did mean that they had English speaking staff to help describe the meals and English signage and hotel information, so it was very accessible in this way. Overall I'd highly recommend. It was the most beautiful ryokan I've stayed in, with the attention to detail far exceeding my expectations.

We had a lovely stay at Izuyasu. We loved the traditional atmosphere and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. It felt as if you were welcomed into their home. We were the only guests staying at the ryokan at the time and had the baths to ourselves, wich we enjoyed very much. The breakfast was traditional japanese and we enjoyed that very much also. If you are looking for an authentic ryokan experience I would definelty recommend Izuyasu, the best ryokan we have stayed at so far.
