Villa Canaya

The place is a wonderful oasis in nature! Away from the noise and hectic the main roads and Galle's city center offers, this is a beautiful place to recharge and relax. We felt so welcomed by Asanga and Rajka and their wonderful family! Thank you, bohome stuti, for receiving us with such open arms and hearts in your home! The family was doing their best to make us feel at home - giving us suggestions where to taste great food, which beaches to check out, organised a scooter for our stay and engaged in honest and enriching conversations about life. They prepared delicious Sri Lankan food, with a mix of string hoppers, hoppers, eggs, fruits, coconut sambol, pancakes, curries and dhal. Highly recommend the yummy breakfast! The property was absolutely clean, the rooms incredibly spacious and beautiful, and the pool great to refresh in the afternoon heat. The property offers plenty of spaces to relax in the shade and listen to Nature's sounds such as the peacocks surrounding the house. The road to Canaya falls into the category "off the beaten track" - a mud road, but still manageable for tuktuks and our scooter. Consider it the entry path into the adventure awaiting you :) The villa is a 10min drive by scooter or tuktuk to Galle fort and Galle train station. We enjoyed being away from the center and its masses of tourists and still being in reasonable distance to go for dinner or stroll through the old town. As some recent reviews are very negative and complain about the owner and the property: I can't relate at all, as we had an amazing experience both with the host family as well as the place itself. If you are looking for a heart-centered connection based on trust, respect, curiosity and reciprocity, I highly recommend Canaya. If you come with a consumer mindset and want purely transactional encounters, Galle Fort might be a better fit. Reading some of the reviews makes me wonder with what expectations ("no leaves in a pool surrounded by trees, please"...) some people travel. Canaya Boutique Villa in Galle, Sri Lanka is an absolute GEM ! From the moment we stepped our foot onto this property, we're enveloped in the sense of tranquility and serenity. Nestled amidst lush greenery, this hidden oasis provides the perfect escape from your everyday life. One of the highlights of the villa will be definitely its swimming pool and the whole setup. With it's refreshing waters and picturesque surroundings, we found ourselves spending countless hours lounging by the pool or taking a dip in it's very refreshing waters, especially after whole days out. It was the ultimate relaxation heaven, and the perfect spot to unwind and recharge. Another amazing feature of Canaya is the proximity to the local beaches, just a short walk away through the forestly junglish beaten path, we were able to sink ourselves into the soft sand and soak up the beauty of the Indian Ocean. The nearby beaches are truly picturesque, offering a peaceful retreat for sunbathers and ocean enthusiasts alike. If you are looking to explore local attractions, the town of Galle is a stone throw away. The owners of Canaya Boutique Villa were extremely attentive and helpful, I wish that people in other parts of the tourism industry and not only - could learn from Asanga ( the amazing owner of the Canaya, and happy father of 3 little kids) what Customer Service should look like. The owners were providing us guidance and recommendations on the best things to see and do in Galle and surroundings. From the historic Galle Fort to the bustling markets and charming streets, there was never a dull moment exploring their home town. But what truly sets Canaya apart from other accommodations is the exceptional hospitality of the Sri Lankan owners. From the moment we arrived, they made it their mission to ensure that every aspect of our stay was perfect. They were attentive to our needs, always ready with a warm smile and a genuine desire to make us feel at home - and so we did... We even cooked the Christmas Eve dinner together, and enjoyed it with other other guests and some of their friends. Sleeping... Guys the beds in the villa were an absolute dream to sleep on, each night we would sink into a cloud of comfort, drifting off to sleep amidst the soothing sounds of nature. The owners had thoughtfully provided all the amenities necessary for a comfortable stay. Speaking of nature, the sounds of the surrounding forest were a symphony to our ears. We've lost count of the different species of birds we encountered, not to mention the flying foxes (the massive bats famous to the Northern Queensland Australia), monitor lizards, other reptiles, and the beautiful peacocks (while chilling by the pool). Each morning we would wake up to the melodious chirping of birds and squirrels, creating a peaceful ambiance that only can be found in the heart of nature. And every night, a mesmerizing firefly show would light up the night sky and the whole garden, providing a magical experience that we will never forget. In conclusion, our 9 night stay ( supposed to be shorter but we extended it) at Canaya Boutique Villa was a holiday to dream about. The combination of the tranquil surroundings, swimming pool in lush green scenery. Proximity to the attractions of Galle - you have to experience it by yourself to understand what we are talking about.
