Yuan Yee Homestay is easily the best B&B in Jiufen, for several reasons. First of all, free parking on site! Visitors to Jiufen, driving in from Taipei, will notice that the road leading through town is very crowded. There are several parking lots, however they are very expensive to park in. If you are staying at Yuan Yee, just keep driving all the way through town. At the edge of town there is a fork in the road, take the middle route (the left takes you down the mountain, the right is for buses). It will curve around the back of the mountain, and you will see many tombs on the right. Immediately after passing the tombs there is a signpost on your right, with several brown signs. Turn right onto that road. It is a very narrow road, but it is wide enough for even large vans to drive down. There are two places to park, the largest is the first one you see, next to a basketball court. The second place to park is on the roof of the B&B, where there are four parking spaces. Park in either, and enter the building from the roof. Turn left down the stairs and you will be in the lobby. In addition to parking, the location of Yuan Yee provides an absolutely stunning view. Jaw-dropping is the only way to describe it. Several of the rooms have views of the ocean and the town. The location also makes access to the Jiufen old street very easy! A 2 minute walk down the stairs and you enter old street near the beginning. This makes it very easy to explore the town, and return to your room very easily if you want a break from the crowds. The breakfast is simple and delicious, a breakfast sandwich made fresh each day, along with Vietnamese coffee, or tea. Breakfast is served on the top floor, with that incredible view of the town and ocean making for a great way to start the day. Every floor has refrigerators very close to the rooms, making it easy to bring whatever you want for food. On top of all of that, the staff is wonderful. A family business, the staff is kind and attentive to all your needs. As a photographer I always have a lot of high-end equipment with me, and this is one of the only places I have ever stayed at where I felt completely comfortable leaving my gear in my room. My fiance and I plan on staying at Yuan Yee every time we visit the north coast, our experience there made the entire experience magical.
