Gear up for the year and explore below, the most exciting places to cover during long weekends 2024.
Jan-Feb-March 2024
The first three months of the year are filled with excitement for all travel lovers as there are five long weekends falling under this quarter for the 2024 calendar.
There are two long weekends in the month of January with both Makar Sankranti/Pongal and Republic Day falling on a Friday. Next, there are three state observed long weekends for March 2024 which include Maha Shivaratri, Holi and Good Friday.
Where to go: Enjoy the last of winter and book a safari at one of India’s many national parks. There’s Gir National Park to spot Asiatic lions, Kaziranga for the one-horned rhinoceros, and Bandhavgarh, Ranthambore, Tadoba and more for tigers. If you’re a colour and grandeur enthusiast, we would recommend experiencing the beautiful festival of Holi in Manali.
April-May-June 2024
There are no long weekends in the month of April, but Buddha Purnima falls on a Thursday, on 23rd May in the calendar of 2024. If you take a Friday leave, you can spend a four-day extended weekend in one of the hills of Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand. Next, we have Bakri Eid on Monday in June, leaving you with another three days for a staycation.
Where to go: The months of April to June are warm and windy in India, and this the best time to visit a beach location. You can explore the ever-so-charming Goa or use the four-day long weekend to visit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. If you are an adventure enthusiast, you can visit Sikkim, or take a bike-ride along the spiky roads of Leh-Ladakh.
July-Aug-Sept 2024
Whilst there are no long weekends in the months of July and September, August comes with a lot of surprises. Independence Day falls on a Thursday (15th August) and if you take a Friday leave, you can club it with the Raksha Bandhan holiday on Monday (19th August) to have a five-day long weekend. There is another state restricted holiday in the month of August to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami.
Where to go: July to September are the breeziest autumn months in India, especially for the North-Indian population. You can take a short international trip to Maldives, or Bali during the five-day long weekend, or explore the heritage towns of Rajasthan such as Jaipur or Jodhpur during the three-day break. If you want to witness some windy old-school towns, Ooty is a great choice too!
Oct-Nov-Dec 2024
Maha-Navami and Dusshera fall on a Friday (11th October) and Saturday (12th October) respectively. We also have Diwali (1st November) and Guru Nanak Jayanti (15th November) on a Friday in the month of November.
Where to go: October marks the beginning of winters in the Northern part of India, and no better way to beat the chilly winds than spend a weekend at the beaches of Kerala. Get enchanted by the city of Lakes, Udaipur or see one of the most charming hill stations of India, Nainital, come to life during these months.
