As I stepped into my cabin, I was transported to a realm of indulgence. The decor, a symphony of royal blue and gold, exuded sophistication. Plush beds, intricate detailing, and panoramic windows framing picturesque landscapes created an ambience that spoke of opulence and comfort. The cabin was small but cosy with a bed, a table, and a personal bathroom. The cabin and bed were made squeaky clean each morning by a personal attendant who also performed other tasks like ironing clothes and serving masala chai, all with a beaming smile on their face!
Dining aboard the Golden Chariot was a culinary odyssey through the heart of India. The chefs, true maestros of their craft, presented a feast that celebrated the diverse flavours of the regions we traversed. From crispy dosas to delectable desserts, each meal was a vibrant tapestry of colours and tastes. There were two restaurant cars for enough seating space, as well as two kitchens on the train that cooked Indian and Continental food, respectively. I was struck with a dilemma each time I had to pick a meal from the varying choices of continental and Indian dishes. My favourite picks were the Masala tea, Vegetarian Thali, Ajwaini Poori, and Stuffed Omelette. I could never imagine that such extravagant meals were created in a small kitchen on the train with such expertise!
As the train glided through picturesque landscapes, I found myself immersed in the cultural splendours of Mysuru, exploring the grandeur of its palace. Hampi enchants with its ancient ruins and rich history, and the sunsets by the river. We were privileged to be taken on a jungle safari and to look around the majestic coffee plantations in Chikmagalur and Hassan and the magnificent temples in Haleebeedu and Belur. The serene Goa provides a tranquil finale, completing a journey with relaxing sunbathing on beaches and contentment with the old church visits that seamlessly blend luxury with the rich tapestry of South India's cultural and natural beauty. We were accompanied by two luxury buses that drove us around, and two attendants from the train we knew well, who looked after us and our comfort.
Every corner of the train was designed to cocoon guests in luxury. The turndown service transformed the cabin into a haven of comfort, inviting relaxation after days filled with exploration. Plush furnishings, soothing lighting, and thoughtful amenities created an ambience that blended modern comfort with timeless elegance.
Evenings aboard the Golden Chariot were a spectacle of cultural extravagance. Traditional music resonated through the air, and mesmerizing dance performances unfolded like chapters of a historical novel. The rhythmic beats and vibrant hues added an extra layer of enchantment to the already magical journey. My favourite on-board activity had to be the henna session where seasoned henna artists drew intricate floral designs on my palm in a matter of minutes, and the other was when the expert chef gave us a cooking demonstration of his signature dish.
Aboard the luxurious spa carriage, I surrendered to rejuvenating treatments amidst the rhythmic hum of the train. The spa experience was a symphony of relaxation, seamlessly integrating modern spa techniques with the timeless charm of train travel. The aromas of lavender and citrus took me on an olfactory journey. The aromatic oils not only soothed my skin but my overpowered mind as well. A sense of tranquility flowed through my body as the masseuse performed her tailored massage. Truly a delight for the senses!
