An epic adventure awaits you at Aventura Ooty, where you can make your Lord of the Rings-inspired fantasy of staying in a Hobbit Hole come true.
Imagine a place where the spellbinding world of the famous British writer JRR Tolkien—the creator of "Middle Earth"—comes vividly to life. Nestled amidst the lush Nilgiri Hills in Ooty, Aventura Ooty (356/C, South Hobart Road, Bishop Down, Fernhill, Ooty, Tamil Nadu 643001; GeoTag: 11.389566550755095, 76.69914618193569) invites you to transform your Lord of the Rings (LOTR) fantasies into reality. This unique campsite offers an immersive concept-based glamping experience. It was the irresistible allure of immersing myself in this magical realm that brought me to Aventura Ooty. So, with a well-thought-out plan, I set out on an adventure that would seamlessly meld Tolkien's universe with the breathtaking beauty of nature.
Aventura is conveniently located just 3 km from Ooty Bus Station and 5 km from Ooty Rose Garden. The nearest airport—Coimbatore International Airport—is 96 km away. I took Aventura's paid airport shuttle service to reach the campsite. When I arrived at the campsite, I paused a while to marvel at the "Hobbit Holes". These unique abodes, ingeniously crafted in an 'O' shape, evoked the quaint charm of the homes in Tolkien's imaginary world of The Shire. Drawing inspiration from Hobbit Town in New Zealand, and capsule-style living in Japan, the Hobbit Holes merged different worlds, offering a truly unparalleled camping adventure. The rounded doorways and pastel colour scheme created an ambience that was both rustic and spellbinding. A well-paved pathway led me to the sprawling ground where these charming pods were located. As I strolled towards my assigned Hobbit Hole (sleeps up to two guests), I couldn't help but lose myself in the beautiful vistas of nature that surrounded me.
Upon entering the pod, I discovered a modest yet cosy interior. A queen-sized bed took centre stage, offering a comfortable retreat. Conveniently placed power sockets on either side of the bed allowed me to easily charge my electronic devices. Despite the compact size of the pod, it had ample storage space, ensuring my luggage was neatly stowed away. The pods, however, don't come with en-suite bathrooms; instead, there is a shared washroom with hot water facility. At night, I was treated to glimpses of the starlit sky, which added a touch of enchantment to the experience. My package of three nights and four days cost around Rs. 9,000 (net), which was inclusive of breakfast. Aventura also offers accommodation in wooden teepees (starting at Rs. 2,500 per night) in the midst of nature. Whether it was the Hobbit Holes or the Wooden Teepees, these places weren't just for relaxation; they played a vital role in helping me connect with the great outdoors.
The following morning, I woke up in the cosy comfort of my hobbit-style cottage. Beyond the window, the sun's golden rays bathed the lush green landscape in a warm glow. I can never forget the jaw-dropping view of the misty Nilgiris stretching into the distance from the campsite. Filled with anticipation for the day ahead, I made my way to Fika Cafe at Aventura Ooty for breakfast. Upon entering the cafe, I was immediately struck by its warm ambience. Sunlight filtering through the large windows cast an inviting glow across the space. The cafe's interior struck a fine balance between rustic charm and contemporary elegance. I opted for a table by the window, affording views of the Nilgiris as well as the bustling atmosphere of the cafe. Fika Cafe serves a variety of Indo-Chinese and North Indian dishes. On that day, I had creamy paneer butter masala and jeera chawal for dinner. Overall, the attentive staff, the impeccable presentation of dishes, and the seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor seating all contributed to the cafe's charm.
In addition to the nature views and distinctively designed Hobbit Holes, Aventura-Ooty unveiled a range of activities tailored to suit various interests, beckoning both sports enthusiasts and adventure seekers. The expansive grounds served as the perfect arena for sports, such as volleyball and badminton. There was also a trampoline here. Engaging in these outdoor games awakened my inner child, allowing me to soak in the joy of simple yet exhilarating moments. If you are craving a Tolkien-inspired adventure, consider booking Aventura Ooty's ATV rides or cycling expeditions for an additional charge. These experiences offer a unique way to explore the local terrain. I decided to opt for a cycling trip, and it turned out to be an invigorating journey through Ooty's scenic landscape. As the sun dipped below the horizon and the evening breeze swept through, we gathered around the crackling flames of a shared bonfire. It was nothing short of a magical experience. The camaraderie among fellow guests and the stories shared around the bonfire created a warm, friendly atmosphere.
From the warm comfort of staying in a Hobbit Hole to the exciting outdoor adventures, my stay at Aventura Ooty offered a delightful mix of experiences. It was a journey where nature's grandeur met Tolkien's fantasy, creating an experience that felt straight out of a dream!
