You can find the Bombay sandwich-wallah outside every building and public space in the city. This sandwich is distinctive because it respects the city's on-the-go culture with cheap but abundant ingredients.
The Bombay sandwich mainly comprises boiled potatoes, cucumbers, mayonnaise, beetroots, onions, tomatoes, cheese, and ketchup. You can also try the grilled and toasted versions. My personal favourite is the toasted sandwich with slightly burnt sides!

Sandwizza started in 1986 as a roadside eatery. It is now an iconic food joint and my first stop on the sandwich run. I sat down and ordered the maha cheese veggie sandwich. My mouth started watering, watching the cook build this colossal sandwich.
He piled chutney, butter and vegetables on one slice of the jumbo bread, and before the building was ready, I lost count of its ingredients. I asked him for an extra dollop of their unique red chutney for the extra kick.
My second favourite here was the cheese veg grill sandwich. You can also try the Mexican paneer grill, paneer makhani burst grill, chilli cheese toast, spinach corn toast, and cheese pineapple sandwiches. Order a milkshake to wash down the deliciousness of the sandwich, and if you wish to bring the taste home, purchase their sandwich masalas.

First opened in 2016, Narayan's Sandwich House is famous for valuing service and quality. Their customers comprise locals and people from the suburbs, yours truly!
On my visit, I ordered their all-time hit, the masala toast sandwich. While I waited for the cook to warm up, I admired the restaurant's bright and colourful decor that enhanced the taste of the sandwiches. Every sandwich on their budget-friendly menu will satisfy your cravings.
I still remember the bliss I felt at the first bite of my sandwich. What masala did they put in it? Because that was out of the world!

Aditya Sandwich is a modest eatery serving a limited menu of sandwiches and dosas. But don't be fooled by its size. The cooks here can compete for Master Chef.
The food is excellent, and so is the service. They uphold hygiene standards while giving value for money. They suggest alternatives if you don't like what's on the menu.
I ordered my favourite from their menu – the veg cheese grill sandwich. This sandwich was enormous and filling! The cheese melted in my mouth, and the veggies were cooked spot on. Besides sandwiches, you can also enjoy delicious frankies, dosas, and juices. Aditya Sandwich is a haven for tasty, quick bites.

Om Snacks is a small eatery with a range of fast food options. It is well-known for its low prices, good hygiene and a platter of unforgettable tastes. Their sandwiches are made from fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection and can be eaten on the go.
For my quest, I ordered their Hulk sandwich; as the name suggests, it is probably Mumbai's largest. It has five layers with a plethora of fillings. If you are a cheese fanatic like me, take advantage of the cheese-overload sandwich. Remember to visit Om with a big appetite.
My friend and I smashed into this sandwich like pros, taking stupid selfies of our stuffed faces.

We were full! But our quest would be incomplete without a stop at Pishu's in Andheri West. At this tiny cafe, a foodie like me can indulge in delectable treats without worrying about calories. The sandwiches are healthy and appealing, made with the freshest ingredients.
The cafe welcomed us with its vibrant decor, vividly painted chairs, and a colourful mural of city life.
My last sandwich today was the Mumbai masala grill. Made with brown bread and spring onions, this sandwich is a subtle, healthy twist on the typical Bombay sandwich. We finished our quest with fresh watermelon juice.
You can also try the big filler sandwich, Pishu's exotic sandwich, and the cheese-burnt garlic sandwich.

Which sandwich deserves first place at the end of the quest? Looking at my ratings, I realised I have a soft corner for all the sandwiches I tasted. I can't choose, and you don't have to either. Come to Andheri at any time and taste the essential Bombay sandwich at any of the five joints.
The winner is, of course, you and me. We get to enjoy quick bites of Mumbai's signature sandwiches that satisfy the hunger of countless residents every day.
