Great, because we're about to go on an adventure of a lifetime! Buckle up, as we explore Rajasthan's greatest royal experiences together. Rajasthan is a state steeped in history and culture. And nowhere is this more evident than in its opulent palaces that have been transformed into luxury hotels. These palaces are a testament to the state's rich heritage and the opulent lifestyle of its royalty. Staying in one of these palaces offers an unparalleled experience, granting you the opportunity to live like a king or queen. One of my favourites is the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. Built in the early 20th century, the palace now serves as a heritage hotel, allowing visitors to experience the opulent lifestyle of the former Jodhpur royalty. Stepping into the palace is like stepping back in time. The estate boasts 347 rooms, each adorned with exquisite period furniture, antiques and paintings. As I wandered through its hallways, I felt like I was in a museum. The palace also houses a private museum showcasing the family's automobile collection. Don't miss out on spotting the rare Rolls-Royce Phantom. Another palace that's a must-visit is the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur. I couldn't take my eyes off the captivating sight of the structure—nestled in the middle of Lake Pichola—that appeared to be floating on the water's surface. The palace has 66 lavishly furnished rooms. Dining in one of the palace's restaurants will give you stunning views of the lake and the surrounding hills.
Nearby, City Palace, also on the banks of Lake Pichola, awaited me with open arms. This architectural marvel is a testament to the splendour of the Mewar Dynasty, with its palaces, courtyards, and gardens. Wandering from room to room, surrounded by the palace's regal ambience, I felt deeply connected to the bygone era of kings and queens. If you think Rajasthan's palatial offerings are exhausted by now, wait till you meet some of its regal cousins. As you venture into Jaipur, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Amber Fort beckons you with its majestic presence. During my visit to the fort, I was in awe of its architecture—a blend of Mughal and Rajput styles. The fort boasts intricate carvings, mirror work, and breathtaking views of the surrounding Aravalli hills. Believe me, it is a must-visit for every traveller planning a getaway to Rajasthan. Jodhpur, with its old-world charm, is home to yet another treasure—the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort. The fort's construction is a mix of Rajput and Mughal styles. It is known for its vast courtyards, artwork, and outstanding armoury and artefact collection.
Besides the forts and palaces, Rajasthan is also known for its colourful markets and bazaars. While exploring the towns and cities of the state, I discovered the fascinating markets of Johari Bazaar and Bapu Bazaar in Jaipur, Sadar Bazaar in Jodhpur, and Hathi Pol Bazaar in Udaipur. Each of these markets offers a range of unique handicrafts, vibrant textiles, jewellery, and souvenirs. Situated in the heart of Jaipur, Johari Bazaar drew me in with its traditional Rajasthani jewellery, including Kundan, Meenakari, and Jadau designs. A short distance away, Bapu Bazaar unveiled a treasure trove of textiles and handicrafts. Come here for block prints, bandhani, and blue pottery. In Jodhpur, Sadar Bazaar—nestled at the base of the Mehrangarh Fort—offers a range of products, including spices, textiles, and handicrafts. Also, don't miss a trip to Hathi Pol Bazaar, located near City Palace in Udaipur. Here, you'll find traditional Rajasthani miniature paintings, silver jewellery, and handcrafted leather goods.
Rajasthan has always been a popular getaway destination for its lively festivals and celebrations. These festivals celebrate the state's rich cultural heritage and offer a glimpse into its colourful traditions and customs. One of the most anticipated festivals is the Pushkar Camel Fair, a vibrant celebration that unfolds every year in November. Here, I was greeted by thousands of camels and livestock traders converging from across India. The festival is a spectacle of colour, music, and dance. It is a great way to experience the local culture and traditions. Another significant event I've had the privilege of attending is the Jaipur Literature Festival. It takes place every year in January and attracts renowned writers, poets, and intellectuals from across the world. Attendees can look forward to engaging talks and discussions, and workshops on literature, politics, and culture. In February, the magical Jaisalmer Desert Festival transports visitors to a time of age-old traditions and desert culture. Expect to see traditional Rajasthani music and dance performances, camel races, and other cultural activities at this sensory feast. Additionally, Jaisalmer Desert Festival offers the opportunity to witness the golden dunes of the Thar Desert and enjoy authentic Rajasthani cuisine and hospitality.
Rajasthan beckoned me with exciting adventures. One such adventure was a camel safari through the Thar Desert. The Thar Desert is one of the most inhospitable regions on earth, with scorching temperatures during the day and freezing temperatures at night. However, riding a camel through the desert is an experience like no other! It offers a chance to witness the vast expanse of the desert and interact with the local communities. As I mounted the camel, a sense of excitement washed over me. As it swayed its way through the trail, I traversed the expanse of the desert, witnessing the stunning sunset and sunrise. A camel safari typically lasts a few hours to a few days, depending on your preference. During the safari, you can spend a night in a desert camp and enjoy traditional Rajasthani folk music and dance performances. You'll also get a chance to try some of the local delicacies, like daal baati churma—a traditional Rajasthani dish made with lentils, wheat balls, and clarified butter.

From its sumptuous palaces and exciting camel safaris to its vibrant festivals and markets, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
