As we arrived in Goa, the sun-kissed beaches beckoned us with their beauty. While we did spend some time lounging on the famous shores of Calangute and Baga, we wanted to discover the lesser-known spots that Goa had to offer. Our exploration led us to the serene beaches of Ashwem and Galgibaga, where tranquillity and untouched beauty captivated us. We spent lazy afternoons under the shade of palm trees, enjoying the gentle sea breeze and each other's company. It is important to know that Galgibaga is a nesting ground for endangered Olive Ridley turtles. It is a hidden gem where you can relish the beach as a group, all while being mindful of your presence in a protected conservation area. It was time to satisfy our taste buds. Vasco da Gama's fish market was the place to go to get the freshest catch of the day. We had it cooked at a nearby restaurant. From tangy and spicy fish curry to succulent prawn balchao, the flavours exploded in our mouths. Each bite transported us deeper into a culinary paradise.
Next, we ventured to Rishikesh, a place renowned for its spiritual aura and the practice of yoga and meditation. While we immersed ourselves in the serene ambience and took part in rejuvenating yoga sessions, we also craved adventure. The mighty Himalayas called to us, and we embarked on an adrenaline-pumping trek through lush greenery. Our efforts were rewarded when we reached the Neer Garh Waterfall, a hidden oasis amidst nature's bounty. The cool, cascading waters, as we took a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear pools, energised us. Another adventure awaited us as we went river rafting in the Ganges. We were busy trying to stay afloat but still managed to admire the views surrounding us. And here's a fascinating fact: Did you know that the Beatles visited Rishikesh in the 1960s and stayed at the now-famous Beatles Ashram? Rishikesh's natural beauty and and spirituality makes for a perfect setting to visit as a group.
The Pink City of Jaipur beckoned us. We strolled through the bustling streets, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere and discovering lesser-known gems. The Sisodia Rani Garden was a serene haven adorned with mesmerising murals. We sat amidst its breathtaking beauty, capturing precious moments and weaving memories through hushed conversations about the wonders that surrounded us. As food enthusiasts, we visited Masala Chowk, an open-air food court and relished the iconic pyaaz ki kachori, a deep-fried pastry filled with a spicy onion mixture as well as Jaipur's traditional dessert, ghevar. The explosion of flavours in every bite was simply divine. Visiting the Amer Fort and Hawa Mahal, and waking up early to catch the sunrise from Nahargarh Fort were some of the amazing experiences in this historical city.
In Kerala, we explored the popular backwaters and went beyond to discover some lesser-known wonders. Varkala Beach, where the cliffs met the Arabian Sea, was a perfect spot to unwind. Mararikulam, a charming village with beaches lined with swaying coconut palms, was another place we explored. We experienced the local culture by watching a traditional Kalaripayattu performance. This unique, ancient martial art form showcased incredible acrobatics and graceful movements. We also ventured into the lush tea plantations of Munnar, where we visited a local tea factory to witness the process of tea production. We were also treated to a cup of freshly brewed tea. Kerala is truly God's own land. Words cannot describe its splendour.
Meghalaya, our final destination, is a paradise for nature lovers. The ingenuity of the living root bridges in Mawlynnong, crafted by the skilled Khasi tribe using living tree roots, is an architectural marvel that left us speechless. We headed to Dawki for a memorable boat ride on the crystal-clear waters of the Umngot River. The underwater world beneath us seemed surreal and otherworldly, as if we were effortlessly floating in air. To end the day, we were treated to the vibrant music scene of Shillong, known as the "Rock Capital of India." We attended live performances by talented local bands in cosy cafés and underground venues. Meghalaya's pristine landscapes and welcoming hospitality provide the perfect backdrop for fostering deep connections and creating cherished moments of shared experiences.
