Fine Dining in Karnataka

Aesthetic décor, world-class chefs, and impeccable food are only some of the reasons food enthusiasts will love the fine-dining scene in Karnataka.

Karnataka boasts a rich gastronomic heritage, and I remember that there was a time when Karnataka was largely known for its cultural heritage and national parks. However, today, it has become a popular destination for some of the most luxurious fine-dining restaurants. I was fortunate enough to try some of these uber-fancy restaurants — and to be honest, once I got a taste of their delicious fare, I wanted to keep visiting them.

World-class chefs prepare authentic dishes which are served in an outstanding ambience and impeccable plating. It's an experience that pampers you with the most amazing dining experience! What else do you need, right?

The fine-dining culture of Karnataka is mostly centred around its capital city of Bengaluru. However, you can find some hidden gems in Mysore and Mangalore as well. And since we are here for all things good and fancy, why don't I start giving you a tour already?

So, where are you headed?

Are you already dreaming of your dinner date or enjoying a luxurious meal with your friends and family? This handy guide will help you choose from the top-range restaurants across Karnataka. Go ahead, treat yourself to a fancy meal!

Boteco Restaurante Brasileiro

Boteco Restaurante Brasileiro is a one-of-a-kind restaurant in Bengaluru that serves Brazilian cuisine. Yes, you heard that right. As the name suggests, the restaurant serves the most authentic Brazilian cuisine. The seating area, which resembles a mansion, embodies the vibe and aesthetics of a boteco (a friendly bar in Brazil). Dining here almost makes you feel like you're in Brazil.

This picture-postcard restaurant features Brazilian and Amazonian locales, evergreen plants, and some mesmerising artwork. You must try some of their signature dishes, such as churrasqueira, which is a Brazilian BBQ, and linguica com mandioca, which is a dish prepared with cassava fries and peppered pork sausages.

Be sure to sip some Caipirinha, a Brazilian drink that is prepared with Brazilian sugarcane liquor, lime, and sugar.

Windmills Craftworks

Indulge yourself in a serene ambience, revel in the good vibes, and enjoy some lip-smacking delicacies at Windmills Craftworks, in Bengaluru. One of the most celebrated fine-dining restaurants in the city, it is the ideal place to unwind after an exhausting day at work. I particularly enjoy their live jazz music, and for bookworms, the restaurant has a prized range of handpicked books. Don't miss this spot if you happen to be in the city and have a taste for good food.

Beer enthusiasts have reason to rejoice as Windmills Craftworks specialises in craft beer. Their secret lies in a world-class quality organic fermentation procedure that ensures every pint is fresh.

Olive Beach

This colonial-era villa has been transformed into a chic, eye-catching space with a spectacular al-fresco lounge bar and a cosy private fine-dining space. The restaurant is a perfect blend of charming heritage and stunning modernity that promises to amaze its patrons. The place offers a great selection of cocktails and a rich list of wines. Interestingly, their menu has been curated by the renowned Indian chef, Manu Chandra. Olive Beach definitely has everything you can ask for!

If you are feeling romantic, you can enjoy a cosy evening with your partner in the al-fresco bar here. Olive Beach also makes for a superb choice if you want to simply hang out with your friends — as I did. You can also have a private dinner at 'The Table for Eight', which comes with a personal Tuscan Kitchen and a personalised menu.

The average cost for two, including alcohol, is Rs. 3100 (approx).

Kaze

Kaze is an exciting Asian fine-dining rooftop establishment, with Bengaluru's glimmering skyline serving as the backdrop. Here, you can enjoy a mix of Japanese cuisine and exciting cocktails.

I found the vibe and aesthetics of Kaze to be unmatched. Besides their expansive bar menu, they offer a long list of mouth-watering dishes, from a wide range of dim sums to sushi. If you are not in the mood for sushi, try anything from their select list of Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese dishes. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with your choice here!

The average cost for two, including alcohol, is Rs. 3000 (approx).

Cha Cha Cha

Located in Whitefield, in Bengaluru, Cha Cha Cha is one of the best fine-dining restaurants you will ever visit. I was particularly impressed with the spot's ambience and hospitality, and the food is undoubtedly five-star rated. This place sure knows how to satiate your hunger with its wide selection of mouth-watering dishes.

My favourite dishes at Cha Cha Cha are the spicy crunchy tuna sushi, dim sums, and prawn preparations. Additionally, you cannot leave the place without tasting the half-moon lattice gyoza and fried chicken BBQ bun. Vegetarians rejoice! Cha Cha Cha serves one of the best crystal vegetable dim sums you might ever have eaten.

The average cost for two is Rs. 2500 (approx).

Alba

Named after a charming Italian town, Alba offers some of the finest and most authentic Italian dishes. Don't I wish I could eat pasta all day! One of the most extravagant fine-dining places in Bengaluru, Alba is as cosy as an Italian ristorante (restaurant in Italian) can be. You can choose from private, semi-intimate, or al-fresco seating, depending on your plans and mood. Can it get better than this? I think not!

At Alba, you can enjoy wholesome conversations over delicious Italian food. If you are like me and love Italian food, you must try their salami pizza and caramelised fish. I promise they will melt in your mouth. Be sure to round off your meal with a coffee tiramisu. You can thank me later.

The average cost for two is Rs. 4000 (approx).

Spring

If you are looking for a fancy dining destination in Mysore, Spring should be on top of your list. Its poolside patio seating space makes you feel like you are sitting on a sunny beach. The fare at Spring is very cosmopolitan, with a range of International and Indian dishes. If you are planning a romantic date, this restaurant makes for a superb option.

Wine only makes a date better — and Spring offers a great list of wines. Overall, Spring is a great place to spend quality time together, eat lip-smacking food, and enjoy live music.

The average cost for two is Rs. 1700 (approx).

Pallkhi Restaurant

If you're in Mangalore, you must visit Pallkhi. Even if you don't take my word for it, trust the popular mainstream media outlets, such as NDTV and Travel XP, who have featured the restaurant in their shows over the years. The first word that comes to mind when you see Palkhi is 'elegant'. Its curved arches and warm colours transport you to another era.

I was surprised when I saw the rooftop candlelight space that offers a stunning view of downtown Mangalore. There's more good news — Pallkhi has a party hall for hosting big groups, which means that you can even boast about hosting a party at a famous place. The seafood at Pallkhi is delicious and very popular among its regulars. However, I tried the tangdi kebab and I have to say that my mind wasn't blown enough.

The average cost for two is Rs. 1200 (approx).
