C Roque Beach Resort, Colva Beach, Goa Situated only 10 metres from the Arabian Sea, C Roque holds the distinction of being one of the oldest beachfront resorts in South Goa. Located in a tranquil section of Colva Beach, fringed by coconut palms, this resort was a tropical haven for me and the fellow nature enthusiasts in our group. As we settled into the property, we quickly realised that the resort was an ideal choice for a couples' retreat. After all, its secluded location and direct access to the beach offer the key ingredients for a perfect beach getaway. From lounging on the deck chairs while sipping Margaritas to falling asleep to the sound of the crashing waves, our stay at this beachfront resort was a superb experience. Maachli, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra During my time in Mumbai, I often sought solace at Maachli, an eco-friendly farm stay tucked away in a village. A harmonious combination of simplicity and nature, this farm stay is the right place if you want a laid-back holiday amidst coconut and betel nut plantations. Each time I visited Maachli, I found myself fascinated with the charming A-framed cottages that offered a rustic retreat, especially in the cool weather. Constructed in the Vernacular architecture style, the cottages seemed to blend in with the lush green surroundings. However, the interiors exuded a contemporary touch in its furnishings. Besides dabbling in pottery, I took the opportunity to explore guided walks through the betel nut, banana and spice plantations. Mealtimes at Maachli added to the unique experience as the food arrived in earthen pots and was served on leaf plates. Notably, the farm stay offers Saraswat cuisine rooted in time-honoured recipes. Ooty, often referred to as the "Queen of Hills", welcomed me for a delightful two-day stay at Club Mahindra Derby Green Resort. Upon arriving at the resort, I was awestruck by the Colonial-style architecture and miles of surrounding greenery. The elegantly furnished room was equipped with all modern amenities, including an LED TV, a microwave, a mini-fridge, and a locker. My mornings at the resort began with breakfast at the in-house restaurant, Ascot. This was followed by a boat ride on the serene Ooty Lake and an exploration of the lovely Botanical Garden. Back at the resort, I spotted a group of kids engrossed in a fun cooking class, competing for the title of Junior Chef. Later, I learnt that the resort offers a variety of curated experiences, such as a Blue Mountain Tour, Barbeque on the Lawn, and Tea with Chef, catering to various interests. If you are planning to travel to Ooty with your loved ones, this mountain retreat will make for a great choice for a family vacation. Diphlu River Lodge, Kaziranga, Assam Tucked away in the wilderness, along the edge of Kaziranga National Park, Diphlu River Lodge stood out as a tranquil oasis. As I approached the resort area, located on the banks of the Diphlu River, I noticed that the thatch-and-bamboo cottages were designed to seamlessly merge with the verdant surroundings. Built in the traditional style of the Mishing tribe of Assam, the air-conditioned cottages were kitted out with modern comforts, such as a writing desk, a mini-bar, a small fridge, and an electric kettle. I opted for the "Jungle Plan" package, which included daily meals, two jeep safaris per day, park entrance fees, WiFi, and other activities, such as campfire and birdwatching. On my first night at the wildlife resort, I decided to retire early. The next day was spent on an exhilarating jeep safari in Kaziranga National Park, followed by an exploration of the surrounding wilderness with the lodge's well-trained naturalists.
