Getting festival-ready: My ultimate checklist to the Sidhmo Music Festival

Are you an EDM, rap and pop music enthusiast? We have the perfect checklist for getting ready for the futuristic Sidhmo Music Festival in Kolkata.

As I packed my bag, and booked my tickets to Kolkata, the cultural capital of the country, my heart raced in anticipation of the three fun-filled days that await me. I had long awaited the famous Sidhmo Music Festival, hosted every year around Holi and is a musical haven - a “mecca” for music enthusiasts from around the country.

I started my journey with a surge of exhilaration and days of meticulous planning. With a backpack brimming with essentials, my checklist became my guiding compass. From sturdy footwears for the pulsating dance floors to a trusty camera to capture moments suspended in time, each item held the promise of an unforgettable experience. The festival ground loomed on the horizon, a symphony of melodies softly echoed in the distance, as I beckoned closer to an unparalleled celebration of music, culture and togetherness. The artist line up included connoisseurs from the pop world, including the King of Rap in India, Divine and the ever-so-talented, Nucleya and the festival took place at the largest water theme park of East India: The Aquatica Kolkata, from 3 PM on 24th Dec to 11 PM on the 25th.

A music odyssey: Key highlights from my trip

As I stepped onto the festive ground, I felt like I had entered an alternate universe. A kaleidoscope of colours was seen on the ground, right from the vibrant decoration to the eclectic costumes worn by the attendees. The aromas of freshly baked cookies and savoury delectables filled the air, as I strolled through the colourful ground, in awe of the visual treat in front of me. The heart of the festival, lay in music though. The main stage was like a grand altar, where international headliners hypnotised the crowd with their electrifying music.

All of us have vibed to Bazz Rani and Raja Baja and the unique desi electronic music of Nucleya. Scheduled to give a sizzling start to the event, Nucleya, also known as Udyan Sagar's, mesmerised the crowd with his Indian electronic bass numbers. He was the showstopper for the show and captured the hearts of the entire crowd whilst we swayed to the tunes, tapping our feet on the magical beats.

Right after Nucleya's dazzling performance, Raghav Juyal, a trained actor and spectacular dancer, most popularly known for his Slow-Motion Dance, took over the stage. As the crowd continued to cheer, he set the stage ablaze with his lively moves and infectious energy.

The shining star for the show was undoubtedly, DIVINE, aka Vivian Wilson Fernandes, a well-known rapper and singer who rose to fame with his ‘Mere Gully Mein’ act in popular Bollywood movie Gully Boy. A beautiful inclusion to the star-studded line-up, DIVINE’s music swept the crowd off their feet, as he collaborated on Nucleya’s top hits and jazzed up his songs with his unique voice and energy.

Whilst the popular artists provided the perfect base for the musical ride, it was the lesser-known artists such as Madhur Sharma and RCR, who held the festival’s soul, weaving tales of raw talent and undiscovered melodies.

Immersive experiences- The Unearthed Gems

Beyond the musical delights, the festival offered a plethora of immersive experiences. Workshops, art installations and cultural showcases, all provided a glimpse into the world’s diverse traditions, fostering an appreciation for global artistry amongst the crowd. There was also an impromptu jam session and interactive exhibits that sparked some creativity revealed the hidden corners of talent in all of us.

The Sidhmo Music Festival was also a beautiful platform to foster individual connections. Amidst the sea of faces, the connections blossomed effortlessly, woven by a shared love for music. Conversations flowed like melodies in the air, transcending barriers of language and culture, forming an intricate web of togetherness.

As the daylight waned, I could see the golden hues of dusk encompassing the festive ground, and the neon lights breathed life into the very essence of the festival. LED screens perfectly complimented the starlit canopy, as the crowd moved in unison at the tunes, their silhouettes swaying in tune with the rhythms. The pulsating beats reverberated through the air, creating an electric atmosphere, were everyone became a part of the collective dances.

A tough goodbye

As the final night wove its magic, I reluctantly bid adeu to this beautiful experience. It was a bittersweet farewell for me, where the air was tinged with both nostalgia and a lingering excitement for the memories, I carried with me. As I wished heartful goodbyes to my musical connections, we promised to reunite at the next chapter of this journey.

The Sidhmo Music festival was a once in a lifetime experience for me, it gifted me, not just melodies but memorable memories etched deep within me. As I departed the festival grounds, my heart carried a symphony of memories, that was a testament to the transformative power of music and communal celebration.
