Hyderabad has many such stories that will leave you wanting for more and yet make you uncomfortable at the same time.

In this blog, we’ll take you on a tingling journey through 10 of the most haunted houses and locations in this city, from abandoned bungalows to mysterious ruins. Some locations might even surprise you, so go on, and read through.

#1 Ramoji Film City

Surprising right?

Known as one of the largest film cities in the world, Ramoji is famous for its grand sets and lavish production houses, but it also carries dark secrets. It is built on the site of an ancient battleground. It is believed that the spirits haunt the film city where the crew has had varied experiences from lights falling from the ceiling, eerie shadows moving about, and invisible hands pushing people.

Visitors have heard whispers, and strange noises, and even seen ghostly apparitions. Some say that certain areas are cursed, with inexplicable accidents taking place during shoots. Are these incidents the work of restless spirits who refuse to leave their battlefield behind?

#2 The Kundanbagh House

Perhaps one of the most infamous haunted houses in Hyderabad, this house was once inhabited by a mother and her two daughters. The neighbours said to have witnessed bizarre behaviour where the family was roaming around the house with candles in their hands and acting as if possessed by some dark force. The real story unfolded when the local police were investigating a break-in and noticed three dead bodies in a decomposed state. Apparently, they had died several months prior. How was that possible when the neighbours had recently seen them doing their weird ritual?

Many locals since then have experienced an eerie presence enough to make your hair stand on end. We dare you to visit this house at night. Will you do it?

#3 Shamshabad Airport Quarters

Muffling cries, moving shadows and a feeling of dread — this is what engulfs the residential quarters near the Shamshabad airport. The place is said to be haunted

by the spirits of construction workers who died while building the airport. Employees working night shifts have reported a feeling of being watched, figures wandering about, loud noises and other such weird happenings.

Is it just paranoia, or do the souls of the deceased construction workers still linger?

#4 Golconda Fort

Built in the 16th century, this majestic fort holds stories of the past and is a hotbed of paranormal activities. Primarily known for its historical significance and breathtaking views, it is also a hotbed of paranormal activity. Don’t know how much of it is true but the locals believe that the spirits of ancient kings and soldiers still wander the halls.

There are tales of strange voices, creepy footsteps echoing through the fort at night, and cold winds that chill you to the bone, even on warm summer nights. Some say you can hear the faint sounds of battle as if the fort’s walls are reliving its past. So, a piece of advice, visit the fort only during day time.

#5 Ravindra Nagar

Ravindra Nagar unfortunately has earned a reputation as one of the most haunted colonies in the city.

Located in the heart of Hyderabad, it is fairly inhabited, but residents have reported unusual incidents such as furniture moving on its own, eerie laughter coming from empty rooms, and inexplicable knocks at the door in the dead of night. But the most chilling part of the story is the mysterious death of multiple residents in the area mostly by suicide, leading many to believe that something is not right. It is also said that a temple was destroyed because of which the place was cursed.

Locals have tried to cleanse the colony of the paranormal presence through multiple rituals and customs, but the strange happenings persist. Is Ravindra Nagar a cursed place where the souls of the dead continue to linger?

#6 Khairatabad Science College

Once a thriving institution, Khairatabad Science College is now an abundant premise that is said to be haunted by the spirits of students who died under questionable circumstances. Those who have ventured at night have reported screams, a shadowy presence and flickering lights, an unusual feeling like no other.

The most famous ghostly tale involves a skeleton used in science experiments that supposedly comes to life at night. While it sounds comic, at this point we are ready to believe anything. Khairatabad Science College remains one of Hyderabad’s spookiest and most unsettling locations.

#7 The Golkonda Hotel

Located next to the majestic Golkonda Fort is this unexpected entry in the list, the Golkonda Hotel. You might think it is obvious that ghost stories emerge from old ruins or abandoned homes, this is definitely one of the unlikeliest of locations. This hotel is fully functional and well-maintained, but guests have reported bizarre experiences, especially on the third floor. From unexplained noises and objects moving on their own to the feeling of being watched, and doorbells ringing, many believe that something supernatural is lurking within the hotel’s walls.

Guests have even checked out early, unable to bear the unsettling atmosphere. Could it be that the spirits of Golconda Fort have made their way to this modern hotel, blending history with hauntings?

#8 Banjara Hills

This erstwhile hilly forest was said to be home to Nizams, and they would also hunt here. The area is distinguished by road numbers and the graveyard on road number 12 is famous as a haunted place. The spooky experiences include sudden temperature dips, mysteriously going out of streetlights, and even something bizarre as tyres getting punctured frequently. Banjara Hills is a posh locality today, known for its eclectic nightlife, and something like this just cannot be explained.

#9 Dedh Lakh Ghar

Considered one of the most haunted places in Hyderabad, this house has a strange vibe to it. Any family who has lived here has committed suicide almost immediately. The aura of this place is filled with misery and despair and people who pass by generally tend to feel a weird presence. The unusual name is because this house was constructed around 40 years ago at a cost of around 1.50 lakhs, which is translated as ‘Dedh Lakh’ in Hindi.

#10 Uppal Stadium

While this place brightens up during matches and other sporting events, there is an undeniably unsettling feeling that many have felt here. The eerie vibe at night has been felt by the guards of the place. Shadows in the corridor, lights switching off and on, footsteps and other such occurrences have been felt here. All we can say is avoid going there at night.

Conclusion

Hyderabad may be known for its vibrant culture, history, and architectural wonders, but beneath the surface lies a world of absurd tales and haunted houses. But isn’t this true for most cities? Every city has a hidden story that is usually kept under cover.

Whether you’re a sceptic or a firm believer in the paranormal, these seven haunted locations in Hyderabad offer spine-tingling stories that are hard to ignore. If you’re brave enough (or stupid enough J), venture to these places and see if the legends hold any truth but be warned—you might not return the same, something is sure to change in you. Best luck is all we can say.
