Winter is almost over, and the spring is ready with romance in the air. Valentine’s Day is perfect for a romantic trip, a one-of-its-kind outing with your love. No, I am not talking about a candlelight dinner after watching a Mills & Boons rom-com. It's about planning a trip to one of the romantic destinations in the country.
Travelling is all about experiences. Everyone wants to visit exotic, unexplored places, but information about them can be hard to come by if you are not a local. Here are my two cents: head to the Konkan region in Maharashtra. There are plenty of unexplored areas and hidden beaches in Konkan to spend cosy moments with your partner.

The Konkan coast stretch is devoid of traffic and concrete jungles. The gorgeous beaches of Konkan have a lot to offer for quiet souls like me, away from the madding crowd in the city. The beaches are serene, scenic, and secluded, perfect for isolation in nature. Couples seeking solitude and peace have the beach to themselves. They can also spend time together in adventure activities, nature trails, and fish auctions to add many memories to Valentine's week.
Here is a list of unexplored beaches in Konkan where you can chill with your partner while eating exotic seafood, walking on the beach, or sitting on the sand watching the sun go down.

Ganapatipule gets its name from the 400-year-old temple of Swayambhu Ganapati, an important pilgrimage. But, it also has secluded areas on the 6-km long coastline where couples can be alone in the company of waves and whistling winds through the casuarinas. You have sparkling blue waters, long stretches of golden and silver sand, and swaying palms to rest with your partner.
It’s fascinating to watch the sun go below the blue horizon. The colour of the clouds near the horizon changes hues each minute, and the call of the birds going home will be music to the ears.
Spend the evening collecting sea shells together and head out to a candlelight dinner at a resort. After dinner, lie down before a Konkani hut and count the stars till tiredness flows into sleep. The one who spots a shooting star is the winner.
Tarkarli is one of the most serene and romantic beaches in Konkan. Tarkarli has sparkling blue waters on its endless stretch of golden sands, where sunbeams dance through the swaying casuarinas.
Tarkarli is in the Sindhudurg district near Malvan, at the confluence of river Karli and the Arabian sea. It is one of the most beautiful beaches in Konkan. The silhouette of the famous Sindhudurg Fort looms in the distance. It’s a place for no news and no shoes, to grip the sand with bare feet and throw oneself into the sea, to fill the head with vast seascapes and warm orange rays of the sun.
The evenings at Tarkarli are ideal for couples when the sky becomes slightly overcast and rapidly changes hue. It's a massive canvas, and the painter has splashed all their colours.
Malvan is a fishing village where vessels of different shapes and sizes dot the beach along with families of fishermen. It has a long beach from which one can see the formidable sea fort of Sindhudurgh.
In the evening, Malvan becomes noisy and crowded with the fishing vessels making their way back to shore in the setting sun. Mix with the crowd and participate in the highlight of each day - the auction of the day’s catch at Malvan.
During an auction, the fishing port resembles the trading floor at a stock exchange, with all types of fish being sold to the highest bidder through organised chaos. Even if you are not buying fish or know nothing about auctions, the fish auction is a unique event in Malvan you should attend the auction at least once to understand the vibe of the fishing village. The auction is completed within an hour, and you will have time to buy a few lobsters or other fresh catch for your dinner at the resort.
The Konkan coast has a lot to offer if you love old forts. Visit the seemingly impregnable post-Shivaji period fort, once a former base for the Maratha navy. Other than the fort, Vijayadurg is a sleepy village with a beach hidden from the main tourist area.
If you and your partner like studying antiquated monuments, 25 km from Vijaydurg, Devgad has a wonderful natural harbour formed by a sliver of land that extends into the sea and an old lighthouse amid a fort’s ramparts. Pick a full moon night for a night out at Devgad beach.
Although famous as a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kunkeshwar is an excellent choice for couples. Walk hand in hand on a desolate stretch of sand that sparkles in the sunlight.
Achra is one of the loveliest and most unexplored shores on the Konkan coast. Stretching out for a couple of kilometres, the beach offers opportunities for couples to frolic in the waves.
I am sure even a tourist with eager eyes would miss this hidden and unexplored backwater beach on the Konkan coast. Deobagh beach is a beautiful narrow strip of sand protruding at the confluence of a creek in the backdrop of a hillock and the sea. Around 6 km south of Tarkarli, this is a picture-perfect spot for spending an entire day boating with your partner. The only companions I had when I was there with my partner were hundreds of seagulls sweeping up and down from breaking waves. The photographer in me was content with capturing sweet memories along the coast lined with coconut trees.
