Koregaon Park is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience Pune's vibrant nightlife. From lively bars to upscale clubs, the place has something for everyone.
If you believed that Pune was merely the quieter counterpart to the lively and bustling Mumbai, it's time for a change of perspective. Open your eyes and embrace the transformation. The era of Pune being a leisurely town that retreated for an afternoon siesta and early bedtime has faded into history. With the proliferation of universities and educational institutions, Pune has blossomed into a vibrant city, boasting a nightlife that rivals some of the finest global metropolises. And why wouldn't it? With a student population of over 50,000, the city is brimming with those seeking to unwind and take a break from their academic endeavours. So, what better way to let loose and release some pent-up energy than by dancing the night away?
The captivating tales of Pune's nightlife had piqued my curiosity, prompting me, a Mumbaikar, to experience it for myself. So, I rallied a group of friends and drove down to Pune from Mumbai for a weekend getaway. Pune is located at a distance of roughly 162 km from Mumbai. It took us just over 4 hours to reach the city on a Friday afternoon. We ended up paying the toll twice, first at Vashi (Rs. 40) and then at the expressway (Rs. 310). The drive was smooth, and thankfully, without any major traffic snarls. Generally, the weekend traffic headed toward Pune can be a drag, but we were lucky to bypass it. After we arrived in Pune, we decided to check into a hotel in Koregaon Park for the duration of the weekend. Given out intentions to explore the nightlife in the area, it made sense to stay in the vicinity. Read on to find out how we painted the town red over a weekend getaway at Koregaon Park, in Pune.Being a Mumbaikar, I'm accustomed to compact dance floors and tiny spaces, given the premium value of space in Mumbai. However, at Euriska, there is no such constraint. In fact, the first thing that caught my attention was its huge open dance floor. Another remarkable facet of the venue is its decor, which draws inspiration from the colours of the Greek flag. The atmosphere pulsed with energetic beats as the DJ predominantly spun trance and EDM tracks, infusing the place with a vibrant aura of youthful enthusiasm. Euriska offers Greek, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisine. I recommend trying out the spaghetti carbonara and pairing it with their Kinki cocktails. If you like vodka, try the Pornstar Martini and the Rich Bitch. The bartenders at Euriska know their craft, and if you tell them your preference, they will come up with a delightful concoction. Overall, a meal for two will cost you around Rs. 2,500. The place is operational until midnight, and trust me, this is the place to be if you have a thing for European food and drinks.
Our next destination was Mix@36, a rooftop lounge bar that is located on the terrace of The Westin Hotel in Koregaon Park. Upon the recommendation of the staff, we made it to the place at around sunset to witness the stunning gold and red hues in the sky. The menu at Mix@36 has a variety of Continental, North Indian, and Asian cuisine. We ordered a few starters that matched our taste preferences. Do try the murgh kalmi kebab, the fiery pepper chicken, and the jhinga dum nishan. The music here is trendy, and once the party starts, it goes on well past midnight. The decor is rather plush, to say the least. The crowd leaned more towards the sophisticated side, all dressed to party. However, as a group of out-of-towners dressed in jeans and floral shirts, we didn't feel out of place. As far as cocktails are concerned, I would give a thumbs up to the bartenders at Mix@36. Their creations were impressive, especially Pink Floyd and Mama Mia. You absolutely must try them! The average cost for a meal for two will cost you around Rs. 4,000.
Another brilliant suggestion by the staff—the next destination on our weekend agenda was 1 Lounge. It turned out to be a pretty big space with different sections catering to a variety of guests. There was a family section—which looked like a function hall—a private lounge, and an open-air section, which we were becoming accustomed to in a lot of the places that we visited in Koregaon Park. The DJ was in his element, effortlessly playing a mix of tracks from a variety of genres. I thought I had heard all the major remixes, however, the DJ surprised us with his unique mixes. The music spanned from Bhangra and techno to pop and Bollywood, creating a smooth flow that was perfect for dancing, especially for a group of friends who are all "blessed" with left feet! After shaking a leg (and an arm), we settled down to enjoy some finger food. The menu at 1 Lounge is quite extensive, with a variety of European, Mughlai, and Indian fare on offer. An average meal for two will cost you around Rs. 2,000.
This nightclub is among the many offerings provided by The Westin Koregaon Park. In line with its name, the venue exudes the opulence of a grand palace, setting itself apart from the conventional nightclub scene. This is probably the first nightclub I have seen that has chandeliers as part of its decor, rendering it an upscale destination, albeit a tad pricier for a night of revelry. The bar menu is extensive and offers fancy malts, cocktails, wines, and a host of spirits to choose from. The party here goes on way past midnight, and as the night progresses, the vibe only gets better. The food menu mostly features Continental and Asian dishes. We loved the peppy prawns, the sichuan potatoes, and the Medici spiced fries. A meal for two will cost you around Rs. 3,000. If you are aiming to impress a date, this is the perfect place to do so. So, the next time you find yourself pining for a quick party getaway, head to Koregaon Park—Pune's nighttime party hub.
