About The Festival 

The Jaipur Literature Fest has been around for more than 15 years and is set to host its 17th edition next year in February.

The prominent guests at the 16th edition of the festival included Abdulrazak Gurnah, winner of the 2021 Nobel Prize in Literature; Bernardine Evaristo, co-winner of the 2019 Booker Prize; Deepti Naval, author of the recently published A Country Called Childhood, Jerry Pinto, a journalist, writer, and translator based in Mumbai, Merve Emre, a Turkish-American author and literary critic, Rana Safvi, an American-Canadian author and filmmaker, and NoViolet Bulawayo, author of Gone Girl, to name a few.

Over 350 speakers from over 100 countries were present at the five-day Jaipur Literature Festival 2023.

William Dalrymple, one of the founders and a co-director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, candidly shared that the JLF platform gave the festival goers a chance to see some of the most prestigious international and national award winners, including the Pulitzer Prize, Booker Prize, Nobel Prize, and Sahitya Akademi. He further added "Whether you're a rickshaw driver or the CEO of a major corporation, you can simply walk in and have your life enriched by this extraordinary phenomenon".

JLF international also happens in the US, UK, Canada, Qatar, Australia and the Maldives. During COVID-19 times, the JLF Brave New World and JLF WORDS ARE BRIDGES were launched, which was viewed by around 4.8 million people online. And, in 2021 the festival was celebrated virtually with over 27 million viewers. 2022 was a much-awaited comeback for the festival and was celebrated both offline and online.

Why is the Jaipur Literature Festival celebrated?

The festival is one of the most intellectually stimulating events where people from different backgrounds delve into world literature as one, where languages, stories, and narratives are all celebrated. It is a forum for authors, artists from many professions, politicians, actors, journalists, and other well-known personalities to gather, engage with literary enthusiasts, and have insightful open conversations with people from various streams.

Is there an entry fee?

After registering, you will receive an email or text message that you must present at the entrance registration desk. Entrance to the musical evening requires the purchase of separate passes from the website. Remember that the tickets are sold on a first-come-first-served basis.

How can you get there?

It's crucial to plan your travel arrangements way before the literary festival draws near as hotels get pre-booked days in advance.

  • By road: You can reach Jaipur via Delhi NCR easily as it is just 4-5 hours by road. The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) also regularly schedules several buses from Delhi to Jaipur. If you are on a budget holiday, then buses are your best bet.
  • By air: Flying to Sanganer, the closest airport to Jaipur is your best option if you want to get to the city quickly. The airport is roughly 10kms away from the city centre and services both domestic and international flights. You can then reserve a cab or bus to take them to their accommodation or the festival.
  • By train: Depending on where you are travelling, direct and connecting trains are available from most of the cities. Do pre-book your tickets well in advance. Some of the options that connect from major cities are the Ajmer Shatabdi, Pune Jaipur Express, Jaipur Express and Adi SJ Rajdhani.
