The moment you set foot in Srinagar, an unforgettable experience begins. Opting to stay in a houseboat, I immediately embraced the unique lifestyle of this city. To reach the mainland, a serene shikara ride is a must. Gliding on the gentle ripples of Dal Lake, surrounded by the majestic Zabarwan Mountain Ranges, is simply out of this world! Today's journey included a delightful stroll along Boulevard Road, offering picturesque views. Later, a peaceful two-hour shikara ride on Dal Lake amidst lotus blossoms was a tranquil retreat for the senses. The shimmering lake and the setting sun created a scene so magical that capturing it in photographs felt like capturing a piece of heaven. After a day full of awe-inspiring experiences, a delectable dinner and a cozy bed awaited to replenish the spirit for the adventures ahead.
Awakening to the promise of Sonamarg, the day was kick-started with a hearty breakfast and an eager heart. The road led to Sonamarg, where the Thajiwas Glacier stood in all its snowy glory, a sight to behold! It was like being in the heart of a perpetual snowfall, with nature’s canvas painted entirely in white. Next, we ventured to Vishansar Lake, a haven for adventure enthusiasts. The stunning lake, adorned with vibrant greenery during the summer, was a sight worth the trek. An interesting tidbit – during winter, this lake wears a frozen cloak, but in summer, it attracts herds of grazing sheep. Our day concluded at Baltal Valley, renowned for its Bollywood connections and nature's grandeur. Horseback riding and immersing in the natural beauty was a perfect way to unwind. Returning to our cozy Srinagar houseboat, we reminisced about the day's escapades.
A sumptuous breakfast set the tone for the journey to Pahalgam. As we arrived, Betaab Valley beckoned with its picturesque landscape, often seen in the movies. Here, the lush setting offered ideal family moments, be it horseback rides or simply relishing the beauty around. Further, we explored Chandanwari, the starting point of the sacred Amarnath pilgrimage, where a snow bridge awaited the sledging enthusiasts. After a day of adventure and exploration, we returned to our abode for a restful night and a hearty meal.
On this day, we set out to explore the hidden gems surrounding Pahalgam. Our first stop was Baisaran, a place of sheer beauty. Whether indulging in horseback rides or reveling in the vast meadows, the setting was simply lovely. Lidder River was next, a glacial river offering a plethora of activities like water rafting and fishing. Picnicking by its milky white waters and dipping our feet in the refreshing river was a treat for the soul. The day culminated with a visit to Lolab Valley, an oval-shaped paradise where the Himalayan fauna added a touch of magic to the landscape.
Our last road trip led us to the iconic Gulmarg, a true jewel in Kashmir's crown. Beginning with Alpather Lake, cradled between Apharwat Peaks, it was a vision of serenity and tranquility. Referred to as the "Frozen Lake," it mesmerized us with its frozen charm. Next, the Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve beckoned, boasting rare creatures and an impressive avifauna population. As the day wound down, we returned to our cozy abode, reminiscing about the stunning vistas and incredible experiences. Arriving back in Srinagar, we couldn't resist a shopping spree, delving into the renowned cashews and saffron. The bustling Srinagar market offered an array of Kashmiri wares, adding to our travel memoirs. Before bidding adieu, a visit to Shalimar Bagh enchanted us with its Mughal architecture and lush gardens.
Kashmir, with its diverse charms and breathtaking beauty, awaits your exploration, promising an unforgettable journey through its picturesque locales and warm hospitality.
