Our retail adventure commences in the port city of Kochi, a fantastic starting point for shopaholics. After checking into our pre-booked hotel, we'll head straight to the beach to kick off the shopping spree. The Kochi beaches offer a unique blend of retail therapy and relaxation, with colorful stalls selling everything from handcrafted jewelry to exquisite fabrics. Don't forget to catch a breathtaking sunset from Fort Kochi, a truly unforgettable experience! As the evening sets in, we'll delve into the traditional dance form of Kerala, Kathakali, a cultural spectacle not to be missed. Our overnight stay at the hotel will rejuvenate us for the journey ahead.
After a hearty South Indian breakfast, we embark on our journey to Munnar. The transition from coastal plains to the lush hills is awe-inspiring, and Munnar still exudes the colonial charm it held during British rule. Nestled at 1600 meters above sea level, Munnar is famous for its emerald-green tea plantations. Upon reaching this hill town, we'll check into our resort. Munnar offers an extraordinary shopping experience, including the opportunity to stay in a captivating treehouse.
Rise and shine for an early breakfast as we prepare for an exhilarating half-day hike. Our path winds through tea and coffee plantations, ascending into lush green rainforests. At the pinnacle of the Sivanmalai hills, we're rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view of Munnar, including Changulam Lake and Chittrapuram Dam. After our hike, we'll visit the Tea Museum at Nallathanni estate, followed by an evening trip to the local market to collect souvenirs, a perfect end to the day!
Thekkady, a small town approximately 100 kilometers from Munnar, is our next stop. This charming place is the gateway to Periyar National Park, one of India's most renowned wildlife sanctuaries. Upon settling into our hotel, we'll head to the park, where you'll be captivated by the sight of elephants, Indian bison, and even tigers in their natural habitat. The rich birdlife further enhances the experience. Don't miss a bamboo raft ride, a tradition practiced by the tribals for generations.
With the sun's first rays, we embark on another day of adventure in Periyar National Park. This jungle hike takes us through lush rainforests, home to countless butterflies and exotic birds. After the hike, we'll visit a spice plantation, offering a fascinating insight into the growth of spices we typically only see in our kitchens.
On the 6th day, we venture to Kumarakom, a charming village nestled on the banks of Kerala's largest lake, Vembanad. The backwaters, formed by adjoining canals and streams, provide the perfect setting for adventurous activities like kayaking and snorkeling. After a tiring journey from Thekkady, take a well-deserved rest and interact with the friendly locals.
The highlight of our trip arrives on Day 7 as we make our way to Alleppey, often referred to as the 'Venice of the East.' Here, we'll spend the night in a houseboat, immersing ourselves in the famous backwaters of Kerala. The tranquility and natural beauty are unparalleled.
After a night on the houseboat, we'll transfer to Mararikulam's Marari Beach. This serene location offers the perfect setting to enjoy a breathtaking sunset while unwinding on the beach.
Located alongside the Arabian Sea, Marari Beach offers an array of activities. Enjoy sunbathing and long walks along the shore before indulging in a calming massage at one of the Ayurvedic health and wellness centers.
Our time in Kerala comes to an end on Day 10. From Mararikulam, we'll head back to where it all began, Kochi, before catching our flight home, our bags laden with cherished memories and unique finds.
Kerala is not only a treasure trove of natural beauty and adventure but also a paradise for shopaholics. If you're looking to quench your thirst for adventure and bring home unique souvenirs, Kerala is the ultimate destination. From houseboat stays to jungle hikes and retail therapy in bustling markets, this state offers an experience like no other. So, pack your bags and set off for an unforgettable shopping holiday in Kerala – you won't be disappointed!
