Royalty, grandeur, hospitality, and Rajasthani cuisine – expect it to go a notch higher than your wildest imagination at some of these eye-popping properties in Ranthambore.
Ranthambore is located in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, India. Nestled in the foothills of the Aravallis, the place is synonymous with the renowned Ranthambore National Park. One of the most filmed tiger reserves in the world, it is home to the Royal Bengal tiger and other animal species, such as leopards, hyenas, crocodiles, and chital deer.
Ideally, you would need a minimum of three days to explore the area. This will allow you to undertake multiple safaris in Ranthambore National Park, and thereby increase the likelihood of tiger sightings.

When in Ranthambore, make sure the experience of your stay is as regal as the Royal Bengal Tigers nearby.
Over my subsequent visits, I had the opportunity to experience some of the most luxurious properties near the national park. All the properties I will mention henceforth are known for reflecting the rich legacy, culture, and heritage of the area.
The alluring blend of traditional aesthetics with modern amenities adds to the wholesome experience at these top-line properties. While the spectacle of the wild can be intimately enjoyed from your plush air-conditioned quarters, feel free to indulge your senses in the swimming pools, lush gardens, spa and fitness centres, reading rooms, bar and lounge areas, in-house restaurants, and souvenir shops here. Most of these properties offer high tea, followed by an evening of cultural extravaganza, served over the food and flavours of Rajasthan.
Inspired by the royal tents of travelling caravans, Vanya Vilas is "luxury, set in nature." A grand welcome at the entrance was enough to set the tone for me. A golf cart took me through a pretty garden overlooking the pool. On the way, I also got to see the outdoor dining areas nestled within a lush jungle setting.
Elated with another round of welcome, I stepped inside my den for the night. Weather-proof and heat-resistant, the spacious tents were kitted out with teakwood floors, jungle-themed furnishings, a lavish bathroom, a four-poster bed, and plush armchairs to lounge on. Each tent has a private garden framed by handmade traditional walls. It extends to an open, personal sit-out, where I spent my lazy afternoons reading. The evening was as mellow as I would have imagined with beautifully lit areas.
The next morning, I met other solo travellers, couples, and families. Amazingly, the property catered to all of us with efficiency and intuitiveness. The in-house naturalist gave us a Nature Walk around the resort. The property also boasted an on-site observation tower. During my visit, I had the pleasure of meeting Lakshmi, the friendly resident elephant that was rescued from a circus. This chance encounter was a real taste of royalty for me.
One of India’s finest wildlife luxury camps, Sujan Sher Bagh was my prime choice on my first visit to Ranthambore. Themed around the aesthetics of 19th-century princely estates, the canvas tents are rebuilt every year and come with well-appointed bathrooms and private sit-outs. The hand-crafted rose and teak furniture lends the place a royal touch.
I loved sitting in the lounge area, adoring the artworks and photographs of tigers and the Sujan family, who are owners of Sher Bagh. Later, I also spent a lot of quality time by the pool in private.
An entourage of custom-made jeeps and wildlife experts ensured an experience of a lifetime. They had the best guides and naturalists in the industry, who helped enhance my understanding of wildlife conservation and cultural preservation here.
The night was made even more magical, with a lavish dinner arranged under the stars, which made for a surreal experience. The stay at Sher Bagh can be quite thrilling, especially if you unexpectedly encounter furry friends at odd hours. It's possible to spot tigers and leopards right in the backyard. The place is not for the faint-hearted, but for adventure seekers, it is highly recommended.
I found this property enchanting and particularly safe for a solo female traveller. It is situated in the buffer area of the forest. Extravagantly huge, the white domes of the hotel are visible from afar. The elaborately designed rooms with grand ceilings do justice to the royal heritage. The sparkling dining hall is a visual delight and makes a perfect setting to relish a wide range of Rajasthani dishes during meal hours. I was told that this hotel is a popular wedding destination among the elite.
I was awestruck when I visited the ridiculously large stepwell-styled swimming pool. The marvellous sight of the pool surrounded by majestic white architecture took my breath away.
The staff was also kind enough to arrange for a Jeep safari for me on relatively short notice. Else, I would have certainly missed this experience.
For guests staying at Aman-i-Khas, the hospitality begins right at arrival. A private car is arranged from the railway station to Aman-i-Khas, which is a 20-minute drive. The place is an exclusive wilderness camp situated on the edge of the national park.
The camp layout offers a spacious yet intimate experience, with guest privacy at its core. The Mughal-era-themed tents feature elegant interiors and are divided into three sections: a soaring bedroom, a living area, and a bathroom separated by white cotton drapes. Each tent has its sundeck and a minibar.
To my delight, the chef gave me a quick tour of the camp’s organic garden. I also indulged myself in reiki healing and outdoor yoga sessions. Needless to say, the whole experience helped me relax and rejuvenate after my journey. Moreover, the camp also offers incredible Ayurvedic massages.
As soon as I laid my eyes on this pristine white haveli, built in Rajasthani architectural style, I was immediately captivated. From the roof to the floor of this haveli, every little aspect is hand-crafted with intricate detail.
This premium hotel emphasises an organic way of life through its dairy farm, Shabri. You will enjoy home-grown organic fruits, vegetables, and dairy products here, which follow the “Farm to Table” concept. No wonder they offer round-the-clock room service!
The hotel is aptly equipped not only to cater to vacationers but also to business travellers. Their conference room, called Malhar, often hosts corporate and social functions. As the day drew to a close, I was treated to the visual spectacle of a star-filled night sky after a screening of some amazing wildlife documentaries.
The royalty in Rajasthan usually speaks through its vibrant colours and rich textures. Yet, Ranthambore majestically exhibits opulence in its silent rustic frame. Amongst the plethora of available choices, this guide will help you to make an informed decision about your stay. Indulge in these luxurious properties and experience what it is to live like royalty on your next holiday!
